I find the bass not deep enough in my Sennheiser HD595, not even with an amp. I like the bass in my Sennheiser HD280, but otherwise I find them a little dry, but good for isolation.
I assume that HD650 is a safe choice. But I find them too expensive. I would like th find an open headphone in the price class about HD595, but with a deeper bass. How about HD590?

I find the bass on my 590 to be as good as the beyer pro 770-80. Of course I use a strong amp also.

I have only compared my 590 to the 555, but I don't think the bass went any lower. The 590 might have been a little fatter in the midbass; the 555 bass sounded tighter/leaner but it went just as low. So maybe someone else can comment on how close the 595 would be to the 555 in this case....

Both were unamped in the comparison.

I find my 595's to be quite nicely balanced. The bass isn't thundering, but it is there and very clean imo. They are one of my favourite phones. Acoustic music is really good on them. In fact, some sounds are scarily real if you set the volume at the 'right' volume. I often look around thinking that someone is in the room when it is the phones!!!

Looking at Headroom's graphs, the HD595 does not drop off much quicker than the HD600 in the bass and beats the HD580, and recalling j-curve's old thread where the HD590 dropped off faster than the HD580, I strongly doubt the HD590 would be better at deep bass. It probably has more overall, if that's what you're looking for.

I have both the 590's and the 595's and I believe the 595's actually go pretty darned deep - slightly deeper than the 590's, but where bass slam is concerned it's hands down for the 590's. They're quite a bit more punchy than the 595's. The price paid is recessed mids. I'd guess that the 590's are the most exciting and most comfortable headphones Senn makes (perhaps excluding special 'phones above the 650 model?), but though nicely detailed the mids sit too far back for some music, so I end up listening to the 595's more, with a little eq'ing...

The HD 590 have louder and more extended bass than the HD 595 from my experience. The HD 590 also have a big soundstage and would suit classical, orchestral music and movies. I didn't like the way they reproduced vocals so I prefer the HD 555 or 595.

Wouldn't the DT 990 be similar to a HD 595 but with more bass?

I have now looked at the graphs. According to them Hd595 should have deeper bass than HD280 Pro. In my ears HD280 Pro have much deeper bass. Must have something to do with open and closed phones. But it is difficult to understand. When the microphone to graph meter doesn't hear deeper bass in 280 Pro, why do I?
Is it only me that hears that bass sounds deeper in HD280Pro?

DT 990s are significantly recessed in the midrange compared the HD 595s. I actually just switched to the 595s a week ago.

This has been discussed previously. Most seem to think a less than optimal seal is affecting the deep bass section of the HD 280Pro graph.

Seems logical to me, because I am absolutely sure that the bass is deeper in HD280. Perhaps it is impossible to get such a deep bass in open headphones. That is a pity, because the deep bass makes much to the hearing experience.

I love the bass in my Senns 590s. I really like this headphones better than the HD595 ( not enough bass punch). I don't they have recessed mids, it just depend on the recordings, I love listening to Diana Krall and Patricia Barber, and their voices sound AWESOME. The Equinox cable makes a difference, not huge but it is there.

Would you call the bass in HD590 "deep"? I mean there is a difference between loud, punchy bass and deep bass. With deep I mean low in octaves.
