I've been doing some searching around for some Senn HD580 prices but whilst searching around I have come across some weird versions of the HD580.

HD580:
1. Precision (standard version) edited
2. Precision II (released 09.02?) edited
3. Ltd Edition 100 omhs
4. Jubilee
5. Special

Not sure if any one else has seen any of these versions of the HD580. I know there was a Jubilee done to celebrate something or other and I assume that this version that most of them are refering too. I can't find much out about the Jubilee version however and if they really have done a 100 omh version.

Any help would be appreciated

I'm as confused as you are about all the different versions. To help you a bit. . .

The jubilee version was created by sennhesier to commemorate some milestone in their history(not quite sure which). The jubilee version used more closely matched drivers than the standard HD580s, and the HD600 was born out of it.

Now, are you sure its the "Prestige?" The HD580s I purchased in Germany in 2001 were labelled Precision II, iirc.

My brian must be going dead, yep it is precision not prestige (thats the 590). From what I have found out the Jubille was still a 300 omh version but i have seen 100 ohm versions of the HD580 knocking around.

Thanks for the correction andrzejpw. BTW whats the difference between the precision 1 & 2?

Normally I tend to think the higher the ohm the better (probably wrong thinking most of the time) but I am wondering if the 100 ohm hd580 would sound better or worse than the 300 ohm standard. And what changes did they make for the Jubille edition. I have looked on the senn website but couldn't find any answers.

the jubilee had closer matched drivers, metal rear grill, and carbon fiber. it's pretty much like the hd600, but cooler looking, imho.

Yup, the Jubilee was basically a limited edition slightly improved HD580 that went over so well that they had to release it as the HD600. You have no idea how bad I wanted one when it came out. I lusted over the listing on HeadRoom's site but just couldn't commit the funds back then.

HD580 Jubilee == HD600

Will have to watch out for bargin secondhand HD580 jubilee headphones. Though the HD600 are so cheap in the UK its probably cheaper to buy those. Cheers for the info Kelly.

Yes!!! I picked up a set of Jubilees new from Holm Audio last year. A good buy at the time when you consider I paid $200 for essentially a HD600. Only prob is now I gotta send it in for the connector problems that plagued the pre 99 issues of the HD580's and HD600's.

The specs of the Jubilee are the same as the HD-600. Carbon-fiber housing, metal grills, and the drivers matched to 1dB. So as far as I know there's no difference. The Jubilee was only made for 1995 for Sennheiser's 50th anniversery (or something like that). The only way you can find it new is if you're lucky enough to stumble across some unsold stock of it like I did.
