Hello All,

What would be some good upgrades for the 580's? I've had these for 4 years and I am on my second set of stock cables.

I have seen the Headphile site and his V2, the Carda cables, but not much else. Out here on the Oregon coast we are fairly remote so I don't have any oppertunity to audition and kind of upgrade cables or anything.

Has anybody listened to any mods from the Headphile site, side covers or anything else?

I really love my 580's just curious if there is any way of making the even better!!

I would appriciate any information and expierences you may provide!!

What sorts of improvements are you looking for, first of all?

The first (free) one you can try is to replace the foam covering the drivers with something thinner. Next, the HD-650 stock cable presents a good improvement over the HD-580 stock cable and is very reasonably priced. Beyond that, you are looking into seriously-priced cables (most of which cost more than the HD-580 itself) - in this case, I personally would rather buy a new set of phones rather than cables.

HIHs. Cheers!

How do you go about replacing the foam? The foam covering my drivers has many rips on it because I have had my 580's for so long. Where do you find replacement foam? Thanks in advance.

I removed the thin foam on my 600’s entirely. On some other phones like the AKG 701’s its too bright with no padding but with the 600’s and the 650’s its better without.

The Zu Cable Mobus makes a big improvement in the headphones soundstage and adds tightness to the bass. I made my own cables and have come close but the Zu is really nice.
I agree that the 650 cable is better then all the other stock Sennheiser cables.

How about replacing the 580 grilles with 600 grilles?

The trick there may be finding the 600 grills as Sennheiser has stopped selling them.

Aren't the 650 grilles more expensive?... like 2x the price of the 600s?

Um, why the hell would you upgrade the grills? Isn't that purely aesthetic?

Well no actually, as the 600/650 grills have larger holes and are made of metal. Metal will react to the sound waves differently. The larger holes make them more open, d'oh...

Go to: http://shop.sennheiserusa.com/retail...ct_prod=050635

But it is expensive because you have to buy the foam and the pads. If only the foam use your wife/girlfriend all hose to replace the floam. Good luck.

I had the HD600 and HD650 at the same time, and if I remember correctly, the HD600 grill actually had larger holes than the HD650. I think the 650's smaller hole size was mainly to give the grill more structural integrity, since some people have had problems with getting their HD600 grills dented.
