It's been a while since I heard any discussion about this and I wasn't too successful in bringing up meaningful threads when I did a search so....

I've got a pair of HD580 Jubilees which I bought new last year. These were made back in 1995 so the right channel cuts out with the slightest vibration to the cords. This hasn't bothered me until now since I've built a CMoy and I'm wearing them around town as a portable solution.

Just wondering if there's anything I can do to help keep the channels from cutting out on me.

Somewhere (I can't recall if it was here or HeadWize) someone (I think it was Ian) posted a detailed illustrated explanation of how to open up the HD600s and fix the springs that actually hold the plugs in place. It was a great post.

Same thing happened to my HD-580 and HD-600. The cable is getting broken at the headphone end, inside the colored strain relief part. Just order a new set of cables from Sennheiser online (or upgrade them with one of the 3rd party cables), and it will be fixed.

You can confirm this is the problem by either wiggling the right cable's strain relief when it cuts out, or swapping left and right cables, and seeing if the problem moves.

Here's the link to the cable fix by Squirt on Headwize. There's some detailed pictures too.
