So a couple of friends of mine ordered me the Senn HD555's. I will receive them tomorrow so I haven't had the chance to hear them yet. Just wondering if you guys can give some preliminary help so that I know what I'm getting into.

Keep in mind I'm a total quality-headphone-virgin. I currently use the iPod earbuds which I'm sure are crap in comparison.

Anyway, here's what I'm dealing with:

Headphones: Sennheiser HD555's 120 ohm.

Sound card: Sigmatel Audio onboard on a Dell 600m Laptop

Use: About 80% of the time, I listen directly from laptop. The other 20% I listen through my iPod.

Source material: Most of my mp3's are burned at 192kbps.

Music taste: I listen to pretty much everything with emphasis on Rock/Rap, with some classical/jazz mixed in.
To give an idea of the stuff I listen to, here's a small sample of the bands in my iTunes playlist:

A Perfect Circle, ABBA, ACDC, Aerosmith, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, The Clash, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Elvis, The Beatles, Ennio Morricone, Eminem, Jay Z, The Mars Volta, Tool, Nirvana, Queen, Radiohead, System of a Down, Ras Kass, Weezer, John Coltrane, Blondie, The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Miles Davis, CCR, Metallica, Duke Ellington, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon

So basically, my questions are:

1) How can I maximize the sound from my laptop. I'm sure the Sigmatel Audio onboard is a piece of crap. Am I doomed to inferior sounding music from my laptop? This is what I'm most concerned with since I do the vast majority of my listening through my laptop.

2) Are the phones going to sound like crap from iPod without an amp considering they're 120 ohms phones? Should I get an amp? I don't want to spend that much money, really.

I'm really not willing to spend more than 40-50 bucks. : /

Thanks for the help guys.
