I think the audiolab adds brightness to the 595s though but has power aplenty

Go for the 595.

I have never read a review where someone with the 595 is disappointed with their purchase. They also hold their value better than the 555. Not to mention the peace of mind and the pride of ownership from knowing that you've got the top of the line Sennheiser in production (well, top of this particular line, anyway).

HD595. The 555 is a lose lose situation. Even if you like them you'll always be left feeling how the 595s sound.

Go for 595 I ABed both models, HD595 is at least one class higher, even hooked up to a plain headphone out like that in Yamaha Piano Craft. If you need less details, flooding midrange and rolled-off bass, go for HD 555. Your ears won't thank you.

Wow, imagine that! I never noticed too much brightness with Audiolab 8000A but definitely a deeper bass. Maybe my ears are not as sensitive as yours to the high end, or it could be because my DAC is the EMU 0404 USB. Or do you have that too? Turn the treble down a bit.

imagine that hehehe anyway i dont turn down the treble cause if i lose the edgy lower treble by turning it down, i lose the top end extension too which i don't like. anyway enough of me hijacking this thread
