Anyone here heard of the Senn HD497? Looks like they are only available in germany.

Here is a picture of them:

I wonder how they sound...

If those are the same price but better-performing then my 495s - I will be considerably irritated!

Wow, looks elegant. But I thought that the 4xx series were all supraaural...

Anyway, it looks like www.sennheiser.com has gotten a new face-lift since the last time I went there. I also took note that many of their headphone models are called "4xx-I" or "5xx - V1". I wonder what those "tags" indicate.

Oh and here are the specs for the 497:

Audio-Übertragungsbereich: 24.....22000 Hz
Schalldruckpegel: 112 dB
Klirrfaktor: 0,2 %
Klinkenstecker: 3,5/6,3 mm stereo
Nennimpedanz: 32 Ohm
Kabellänge: 3 m
Gewicht ohne Kabel ca.: 130 g
Wandlerprinzip: dynamic, open
Ankopplung an das Ohr: supraaural

Wait?!? It says that it is supraural in the tech specs...hmmm..

-EDIT-

There also seems to be a new HD477 too...looks like the 497 except it is black.

-EDIT #2-

Possible pricing: HD477: 41.5 Euros ~ $40 US
HD497: 50 Euros ~ $50 US

I think they will be available more widely in the future since they were introduced very recently (at IFA 2001). Sennheiser also introduced the HD 477 there:

I think the newest HD4#7 series headphones will actually be cheaper than the HD490 Live headphones in the U.S. - both of the HD4#7 headphones have a Y-cord attached to both earpieces, and the cord isn't removable! Those will be successors to the current HD433 headphones!

I wonder if they will try to claim that the patterning of holes on the back is performance oriented rather than purely aesthetic.

sorta like cardas' "golden ratio" stranding?

how about the HD500? I just saw it for the first time on Headroom's site yesterday.. Has anybody had any experience with these??

fiddler, the HD500 is the crappiest model in the Sennheiser HD5## line! Overly dark sounding, too much midbass, crappy bass, they cost more than they're really worth.

okay, I tried these a few days ago, very short and quickly. not with my own music either, just from one of those big walls-o-cans. basically, they sounded very thin and bright, non-enjoyable. and they're not even that comfy either. were on my head too short to say anything else than "they're not good".
