Well, after giving my HD25-1's about 16-20 hours of burn-in, I've noticed a sort of buzzing sort of sound out of the left channel, but only on a select few songs. Nothing major, it's not a grounding/electrical buzz, more of a rattle-buzz-- something physical. I'm wondering, if those that have had these cans (or possibly other Senn cans) can comment on if this "evens out" after more burn-in. It only does it at relatively high volumes out of my portables, and not enough that it's too noticeable, so I'm assuming it's just something loosening up. I probably shouldn't be too worried through the first 100 hours or so. The burin-in volume I've been using on my home receiver is set loud enough to really work the drivers, but not enough to do any damage.

I remember my HD280's going through a similar phase of sounding thin out-of-the-box, then sounding good, then regressing back to "not-so-good" before evening back out. I'm assuming this is something similar?

Yes, it is very similar IMO, judging from the description of the HD280 burn-in.
Didn't notice any rattle/buzzing in the left capsule at any point, though

Take off the pads and foam and check for hairs sticking through the foam and hairs on the white area protecting the driver - it could be what was producing the buzzing sound at certain frequencies and volume levels.

Does it only occur on the portable ? It could maybe be clipping on the left channel only, if the volume is that high - clipping can sound very physical also.

So far I only noticed it on one album through my iPod (Testament's "Souls of Black"), so it's quite likely that I'm hearing a flaw in the original recording (flaw in the recording? on an 80's thrash metal album? how can that be?)....

Plus, I have a cat, and stray hairs tend to get everywhere... I'll double check to be sure...

They've actually been really great to deal with. I can't complain in the least.
