HD212's - portable or home cans?

I may be in the market for a good set of domestic-use headphones. The HD212's look like decent cans for the money, but wonder if these are, primarily, for portable use or an they be used at home?

BTW, I have thought about the 7506's, also, but I do not like having the one-cord set-up, peferring the dual-entry design. Any other good sealed headphones that feature this?

Opinions, please.

Sorry, totally unrelated to your question. Just had to say howdy to another maritimer.

They're terrible headphones. The only thing they have got going for them at the price is that they're closed and they aren't too big. The bass is unmanageably big/flabby and the rest of the frequencies sound quite nasty.
I think although they aren't exactly domestic phones that the new PX200 do a much better job sound-wise. Other than that it's what seems like the usual suspects on Head-Fi... the 7506, HD280 and other more expensive ones.
I'm not sure what your maximum budget is, but among the best affordable, closed home phones for all-purpose use that I've run across so far is the Audio-Technica ATH-A900 at just under $200 from audiocubes.com. If your only sources are minidisc, they'll even run unamped from portables.

bangraman. Hehehe. Love your custom job now.

I've heard the ATH-A500 is like a less-refined A900, but the A700 is glup. But don't trust me. I'm merely a n0ob.

The HD212's are for 'duh-m-basses' only. They are dark and bassy - and nowhere near neutral.

But all of the recommended closed headphones that have a dual-entry cord are all priced well out of your price range AND require an amp in order to sound anywhere near their potential *coughBeyer831cough*, Superbaldguy.

You heard that from someone else who heard it from me who saw it on a Japanese headphone board which was probably just garnered out of a 30 second listen on a shyte source at Yodobashi in Tokyo.

On a different note, I didn't even know there was a Yodobashi in Sapporo... Must go see when I'm back home next.

Well folks, you've convinced me that the HD212's are not the ticket. I'll look at the Beyer 831's and the erstwhile 7506/V6 cans, although the latter do not have the dual-entry cord.

Can you still get the V6's, anywhere?

And according to me friend, the crap source was playing some random J-pop. <she was trying out the DS8, and no doubt all the stereos were playing it>

Hmm. I think i'll save some NZ$ and get me an A700. Ha! Oh gawd. That's a lot of NZ$. *sigh*. and at least my DR7 didn't bite too much. 24,900 yen before tax.
<sorry about the OT>
<these arrow things are cool>
