I just got my HD212s and have been breaking them in. I am very impressed, and I enjoy the bass, *most* of the time. I am looking for a nice contrast to these, for some mellow, ambiant listening. I have been looking at the SR80's and I would like to know if I should see a nice increase in detail and over all listening experience.

I listen to a lot of electronic music as well as rap... but these will be mostly for trance, some classical and some acustic stuff. 95% of the time its played from my computer, at least 192K... usually 320k mp3s.

Here is the main idea: is it going to be worth it to spend the 95 bucks?

Thanks for your help.

Comparing my HD212s to SR60s, yes to all of your questions. In general, the HD212s sound muffled compared to the awesome clarity and detail of the Grados. Amping the HD212s is a different matter however. They're still extremely great cans for the buck though. You can get em for as low as $30 now if you look hard.

Btw, my PX100s also sound clearer than the 212s. They aren't as thunderous in the bass department, but they are still very punchy and bass heavy.

Imo the SR60s would be fine enough of an improvement for you. The only thing to watch out for is the Grado sound. It can be harsh to some unfortunate listeners and cause pain related to sound. It would definitely be nice to purchase them from a dealer that allows returns. Best of luck.

From what ive read the bass is really hurtin in the sr60's... that my main reason for looking at the 80s. Is this not the case? I'd like a good all around sound (well as close as I can get for this budget).

If there isnt much of a difference in sound between the 60s and 80s ill jsut get the 60s then. Is it worth the extra 20 or so bucks?

I actually listened to both these earlier today in a store.
Yes the Grado's are way more detailed. The bass *may* be there. But you're not going to feel it in the way the closed HD212's do it.
Polar opposites.

Yup. The bass on the sr60s is enjoyable. The bass on the HD212s is also enjoyable, but in the subwoofer-in-my-headphones kind of way.

I need some help again!

I am looking to purchase tonight... so make it quick!

I am torn between getting the SR80 for $95 or the Allessandro MS-1 for $99. Which one will give me an over all better listening experience, since they are just about the same price?

Thanks everyone!

If you do a search on the ms-1s, I believe many compare them to tweaked SR125 which should be an improvement on the sr80s. (?) I've also heard that Alessandros can be a little less harsh for people that experience fatigue from Grados.

I did search, and I did find that the MS-1 seem to be tweaked 125s. I am really leaning towards the MS-1 right now... should I reconsider?
