I have had a strange experience. I thought I'd hit the top of the pile, all arounder setup with the Hd800s > balanced hdv820

However, I plugged the headphone unbalanced into my old ps audio gcha and for classical music, the sound is so thunderously massive and dynamically musical - albeit not close to as resolved - with the gcha compared to the hdv820. Any headphone genius here able to explain. I assumed sennheiser would have brought out whatever was possible with this headphone using their matched amp. That’s clearly not the case.

This stuff just doesn’t make sense. Switching to the balanced cable on the hdv820 amp COMPLETELY changes the sound from the unbalanced. I tried the hd800s with the benchmark dac3 and that completely flattens the soundstage.

These are humongous differences at a very high price point that make certain music genres synergize and others become completely uninspiring. What do we do, have different setups for different albums? I don’t understand how things could be this DIFFERENT when the sound signatures should be relatively undetectable at this price point.
