Today, I received a used pair of HD 600's (with no instuctions) from UPS. At the risk of sounding stupid, how does one remove the stock cable? I've pulled fairly hard at each connection with no success, and am afraid to pull any harder in fear of doing damage. This situation seems rather ironic, since prior to purchasing the HD 600"s, I'd read in this forum that the connections sometimes had problems staying in place.

I was like this with my HD580s when I first bought them. However, after gaining a bit of courage I gave it a good yank and the connector popped out. You should be ok unless the previous owner glued the connectors in place

Pull it man, like a man, just take it hard with your fingers and never pull the cable, just the connector, after 150 times it get a little bit loose

NOTE: the plugs has only one position, if it didn't go in the way you are trying to re-insert them back, check the right position one pin is bigger than the other, do not force it....

I could've sworn the retail box had no specific instructions about the cables either.

NOT true...

It is well documented here, that the original HD5x5, 580 and 600 headphones can have poor connections... leading to crackling, or distortion... even loss of the channel completely... and with edgiefred saying that they're used.........

Sennheiser redressed this problem in later batches... and, I myself... have no problems whatsoever with the Cardas Cable, also - Cardas have re-designed their connector plug, so even for those people who have had problems... things should be fine now

edgiefred...

One of the easier ways to tell ~ with music playing... wiggle the connectors slightly... if nothing happens, fine ~ great

If you get the crackling / loss of sound, no biggy, remove the connectors, clean them with an alcohol based cleaner... allow to dry, re-insert... and then you'll be crackle free for about three weeks

does the polarity of the plug matter? i yanked out my HD580 Right plug by stepping on the cord and standing up, and i just plugged it back in with the letter "R" facing out. that corrent?

you can't plug it back in incorrectly unless you're very strong or try really hard.
