HD-600 better than HD-650?

HD600's have THE ugliest colour out of the Sennheiser line.

What WERE they thinking?

Funny how there were few/no comments on HD600 being ugly (only rave reviews) before the HD650 coming out. Now that the 650 is out, people complain how ugly the HD600 is.

One of the coolest mods I have seen is someone painting the grilles of their HD580s ferrari red or something. I wonder how well would HD600s lend themselves to overpaint? That would solve the ugliness problem (I also find them pretty unelegant).

Thats my problem with them, and they are toted as Sennheisers top brand, and I don't have the opportunity to extensively test both models. Thats why I'm leaning towards the 650's

I had my 650's out of the box and playing thru my Woo Audio 3 amp for about 15 minutes before packing up my 600's and posting them for sale. Some folks say the 650's are bass heavy compared to the 600's. Don't know but for me the sound differences were night and day as far as resolution goes.

lol, I agree. And people buy the HD650 just because it's more expensive.

Do you guys sit in front of a mirror or something while listening to your headphones?

To me the HD 650 is the much better headphone. It's debatable which has the more natural sonic balance, but to my ears that's absolutely secondary in view of the HD 650's much higher resolution and refinement. I own both, and I couldn't go back to the HD 600... the downgrade step would be too large. Worse instrument separation, reduced spatial depth, lack of fine details, smoothness and brilliance. In my quality scale the HD 650 ranks much closer to the K 701 than to the HD 600. HD 600 and HD 650 are completely different headphones to me, if there weren't the optical family-likeness and the somewhat similar sonic balance.

I agree with you that resolution/refinement are more important than tonal balance, although the latter is also very important (to my ears). If the balance is too far off neutral or has "too much of" something I can't enjoy it, but how much is too much is a matter of one's individual ears. I guess to you the HD650 doesn't have too much bass and lack of treble, but that seems to be the main complaint of those who stuck with HD600. Maybe the K701 is a cure for that, while still providing the HD650's refinement and high resolution.

I hadn't owned or heard the other higher end Sennheisers before buying a pair of HD650. I don't have a great speaker setup or anything, but I definitely think the HD650 are colored to some degree. Of course, I love the coloration...

Uh, don't you think that's dangerously subjective? Why are you blatantly asking to be told you're wrong?

Everything in audio is subjective.
I have compared, I have them both, I have Hi-End amp and try many others. This is my final conclusion.

Ok, so you proved my point... it's purely subjective.

I don't see how one headphone could be better with cheap amps, and the other better with high end ones. Every headphone I've listened to is better with high end amps than cheaper ones (aside from $20 Koss perhaps).

If you meant that HD650 sounds better than HD600 with cheap amps, that much would make sense...
