Is there any way to get rid of it, or is it due to the low impedance of my headphones.

It really depends on receiver. Some low end stuffs have significant dark current.

Well I have an old JVC vr-5505 (love the sound by the way) And i would always get alot of hiss out of it. I run my computer into it and with some new plugins to spruce up the sound in winamp I found that the hiss completely disappeared. It's now crystla clear and perfect. I don't knwo what you have your setup as but if it's a computer as an input then maybe that could help. Just telling what i know.

I think the hiss has to do with the impedance of the phones and the amp. You will need to read the specs of the amp to find out more info on the recommended phones for the amp section of that receiver.
