My brother was at a sony outlet store and bought me a MDR-710 for $21. Not what I would buy, but it's bought and unreturnable. Sounds ok, decent bass, but I think the treble is a bit distorted. also a little too bright and metallic. lacks warmth compared to an old circumaural pair I have. the 710 has a better soundstage so I get more of 3D feel. I haven't heard any really good phones to compare with so it's hard to say how good/bad it is.

But the ergonomic is really good for me. It's collapsible and kept curling up at first but after a bit of adjustment I really like it now. Comfortable and light.

I know the KSC75 is highly praised and PX100 is well liked. the headband on the px100 looks too thick; I prefer the as-if-not-there band of the mdr-710. Can't wear earclip on so I'll have to do the headband mod for the Koss.

So I guess my question is will I get an appreciable boost in sound quality to make it worthwhile? (Can't find either locally, so it's going to be a net order, so no easy return) thanks.
