While searching for more information on the dual-driver canalphones out there, I came across this link on google....

Seems a company called Medialine has made a coaxially mounted dual-driver over-the-ear headphone. They don't look very comfortable, but I wonder how the sound quality will stack up to head-fiers standards. Newegg has them for $39.99 and I'm tempted to cough up the cash and give them a shot.

They probably do suck. I wasn't expecting a miracle, but it's a step in the right direction in headphone design. Who made the rule that only canalphones were capable of having a quality dual driver design? It would probably be easier to implement in full size headphones.

its been done before way in the past -anyone remember the name of that can? anyhow it's an idea whose time had passed. everything old is new again - ipod users might go for anything white, portable, and a bit funky. that's the demographic.

Pickering may have been the earliest to do it

"the woofer in the EDS-200F just reproduce the lower frequencies, leaving the higher octaves to the tweeter."

Ingenious! A less clever designer might have configured them the opposite way.

it's been done plenty of times. it's part of the reason why that review sucked.

Did my research, the panasonic dual-driver model is the RP-HDA100, or Technics RP-FDA100 with a claimed frequency response of 3-100,000hz!

Audiocubes has them for $419!

I never realized this but it appears the AKG k270s has two drivers per earpiece. It's reviewed at 4 out of 5 stars at audioreview....

Headphone.com has it for $249, but they only gave it a 0.5 out of 5 (no it's not a typo)

Who do we believe?
