I have another pair of Beyerdynamic DT531 headphones where the right element sounds to be broken. It occasionally plays music, but most of the time it rattles and makes strange noice. I have checked the cable, it is not broken. I even verified this with another wiring to be sure that it is the element that is broken.

Has anyone changed an element to a Beyer? Are there any tricks? Should both elements be changed at the same time? Where did you get the spare parts?

If you can imagine any other relevant questions, go ahead and answer them as well - if you can.

Thanks for your interest.

I had a driver in my DT831's go out. I spoke to a representative at Beyer USA and they told me that I did not need to change both drivers. He was very nice and thorough and had me make a couple of tests with the multimeter to ensure the driver was blown, even though I already figured it was the case.

Changing it was very easy, just pop the earcup off the headband, open the earcup by removing the pad assembly, desolder the cable, put in the new driver, solder the cable on, and put 'er back together. Even though I only changed one driver, there is no noticeable channel imbalance.

Thanks Iron_Dreamer.

I will definitely try to locate one driver. So far the Beyer representatives in Finland haven't answered my email. Maybe it's better to call them.

Now, I received information from Beyer representative (Finland). Price for one element is 67 euros (+10eur for shipment). Ridiculous price.

That is too much currently. So I'll leave this broken pair in my closet in case I need some parts later for my working pair.

Another update.

The previous price quote was from Sounddata Oy. I just called to another representative (which I forgot for a moment) in Finland to whom I did send earlier an email. I called to AV-Komponentti Oy - they even could remember my email - and they said that they did already order that part!

"Hold on, I was asking for a price!"

"Since we did not have it in our store I ordered it anyway."

They promised me that the price will be around 25-30 euros + 2 euros for postage. That is much more reasonable price. Not cheap, but at least reasonable.

Just talking to myself here.

I have now replaced the element. It was very easy just like Iron_Dreamer stated earlier. Now I have two of these babies.

Somebody sent me a private message. At least I did receive a notification email about it. However, I cannot see any new messages.

The question was about how to open the earcup. Unfortunately I cannot remember anymore how it is done. I am sorry that I cannot help you here.
