I think I must have been born with some sort of a mental defect because I have lots of equipment that I seldom, if ever, use and have thought of selling them to fund a purchase of another item, but when it comes right down to it I find it very difficult to let go and actually sell. I mean, I have sold stuff, but each and every piece I look back on with a fondness and a feeling of loss.

Anyone else like me?

the first sale is always the hardest. it gets easier after that.

"Now the first time you kill somebody, that's the hardest. I don't give a **** if you're f@ckin' Wyatt Earp or Jack the Ripper. Remember that guy in Texas? The guy up in that tower that killed all them people? I'll bet you green money that first little black dot he took a bead on, that was the bitch of the bunch. First one is tough, no foolin'. The second one... the second one ain't no f@ckin' Mardis Gras either, but it's better than the first one 'cause you still feel the same thing, y'know... except it's more diluted, y'know it's... it's better. I threw up on the first one, you believe that? Then the third one... the third one is easy, you level right off. It's no problem. Now... ****... now I do it just to watch their expression change."

I have a friend who is the exact opposite of you. He's had 13 systems in 12 months. He sells EVERYTHING.

Try selling something, it's fun. Just this morning I sold $160 worth of books on Ebay. It goes into my paypal account which is the 'fun money' pool.

I'm the exact opposite. Having too much stuff makes me uneasy. Even having two of any type of vaguely equivalent item (like high-end headphones) makes me psychologically uneasy. I always feel good when I get something go on eBay. I don't need the money, I just like getting rid of things.

I think, for me, it's because I grew up in a house where my parents were like you, especially my dad, who would collect items and then never let them go, even after they were obsolete.

The one exception for me is books. I have trouble letting go of books. It's getting better though; this summer I picked up a used professional bookscanner (off eBay for a real song; buyers don't seem to be shopping for bookscanners) and I scan books I don't really, really want, then get rid of them. I'll probably never refer to the book again anyway, and having a digital representation of it makes it easier psychologically to get rid of the physical book.

oh i sell stuff on ebay, stuff i am not bound too, books are different, i am not attached to books or other miscellanea

my audio stuff is carefully and lovingly selected first time round, i go through quite a process acquiring the new old stock of classic daps and what have you.

kind of like the couple who struggle to have children, go through IVF, finally they have a baby, they are not likely to give up that child they fought for, for adoption eh!
