For me, 4th of July means all the above as well as one of my dog's birthdays and me and my gf's anniversary!

Lots to celebrate, I do.

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Unfortunately, I'm not doing anything this 4th of July, so it's going to be one boring/wasteful day as the post office is closed, my high school is closed (I have to go pick up my diploma), and I have to go to church that evening

A wonderful Independence day to you all! Not to sound pompous, but I think anyone who chooses should celebrate America's independence. America's independence was wonderful for the whole world, as it signalled the beginning of the end for British colonialism and was one of the first countries to codify a workable bill of rights and weave it right into the charter of the nation.

I don't want to start a debate on politics in this celebratory thread, but suffice it to say that I love America and what it has done for the world.

WOO! Fireworks!!

And a Happy Birthday to all 50 States!

The Revolutionary history started in Philadelphia and Boston and the seat of power moved to Washington. Now it's in New York.

How do we get it back to Washington?

Anyway; Happy 4th!!

WOW did you hit the nail on the head! New York should be publicly acknowledged as the capital but they don't like to outright admit it is. They still think the masses are uneducated enough to understand what is really going on. Then there is the ol' smoke and mirror routine

- keep em looking in the wrong direction so the real culprits can slither uninpeded.

BUT:

Happy 4th to all. Have fun and Be safe.

Well, I hope at least some of us had good weather. Here in the NorthEast it was pretty lousy. It was cloudy all day with occasional drizzle. I did brave the frigid waters of my brother's pool for a little while though. Luckily we decide to eat inside because shortly after we sat down, it began to pour.

Of course, this holiday is not about having nice weather and I am grateful and proud to live in the U.S. despite whatever flaws it may have. There is no other country like it on Earth.

Yes, it is good to have an annual day of reflection as to what it all actually means, and to feel grateful, for those reasons which seem to get lost in the daily noise. Likewise ^ the weather here was drismal all day and heavy rain after that, so watching "The Revolution" on the History channel was the thought provoking theme of the day here...

Happy Birthday America
