I'm in the final stages of buying a not very expensive small ~20gb portable mp3 player, based on that criteria I've narrowed it down to iPod, iRiver H320, and perhaps iAudio M3, but iAudio M3 is rather expensive considering I can use coupons towards the purchase of iPod or the H320 at staples to bring the price below $240.

I've heard that the H320 has a 10fps limit when playing movies, is that true? Does it effect the viewing experience?

Are there any pictures comparing the size of H320 with that of the iPod? I know the only difference is in the width .57 vs .9 , but any pics?

Whats the thinnest iPod protector availble?

Thanks

dunno how much i can help, but

the fps issue misticriver.net has a tone of info on it

the size will be noticable.

the h320 is wider and thicker
while
the ipod is skinny(taller) and thinner.

the H120 is closer to ipod size so try this link
http://www.misticriver.net/index.php?page=h340_page3
for size comparison.

and i would to know how you can get a h320 for under 250

pricematch at staples, use a few coupons and gift cards

well I don think I will be satisfied with the size and 10fps limit of the H320, even though video playback is very tempting, I take the train a total of over 2 hours everyday. From what I've read its unlikely that the H320 will ever play above 10fps to avoid cannibilizing from the high-end PMP-120.

So what is the thinnest iPod case? iCondom on ebay?
oh and are there any pictures comparing the thickness of the 20gb with 40gb?

i wouldnt buy an ipod personally so dunnop about cases,

another post here had the question about 20g to 40g size and it was said that the 40g is only a hair thicker.

after reading more into on misticriver, they say about 10-15fps, which is ok for animation, say simpsons or southpark(his given examples).

im prolly about to get a h320 and am going to try playing video, dont know how long you wanted to wait, though.

In my opinion the videos on the H320 are very enjoyable and with the sound being encoded at 128 kbps mp3, it is pretty satisfactory too. I look at the video playing feature on the H320 as a great add-on to an already very good mp3 player!

Thanks guys, I already bought the 40gb iPod, since it was on sale AND I had coupons. I really want the video playback feature and all the goodies that come with the H320, but it is just too bulky to carry around safely, I'd like it to fit in my pants pocket. The extra storage will be useful for me.

fake edit: i'm starting to regret not having video feature.

after I finally got my h320 delivered all considerations about ipod and alternatives were gone. sure in terms of numbers the h320 is heavier and larger, but not that one should worry about. With the new firmware the h320 can play videos too - it's a free bonus

I highly doubt iriver will go drm-crazy like apple or sony and instead will eventually implement more features that the player would be capable of.

The iPodSleevz is very thin. There is some sticky vinyl backing 'cases' that may go even further.
