just got an iriver h120. those of you who have one, is there a little rattling soudn when you move it like something is loose inside? everything looks good, it's in mint condition, and it sounds great, but it does rattle a little bit

ah, maybe it's just the buttons

I have had two differrent H120's (once was dead when I got it) and both did the same thing. It has never really bothered me since my good one has alway made the noise and it has worked great for a year and a half now. Also both of my iPods (1G and 3G) make a very simaliar noise.

btw: rockbox was so dang easy to install, i was amazed. works perfectly and i'm very glad to have EQ, gapless, and flac. the headphone out is really quite good IMHO. allison kraus sounds very nice. also, the very simple, streamlined, small font rockbox font is good.

the h120 is lovely; not overly into the joystick, but it's not bad. player is quite a bit smaller than i expected, quiet, i notice no hissing, nice rounded edges.

do you guys use the crossfeed? i tried it but it felt more like it put a veil/dampen on the sound rather than improving soundstage or imaging

I've tried a few things to help with the joystick. One of the best things I've found is E-6000 craft adhesive that I picked up at Wal-Mart. It's like silicone with glue mixed it. Put a big dab on the center of the joystick. Once it dries some, rough it up to get a more contoured grippier surface.

The joysticks tend to rattle. With the unit off, apply some slight pressure to the joystick and shake the unit again....the rattling should be gone until you let go.

This is normal.

funny the things about dap's you don't think you'd care for till you got them. i can already tell that i'm very glad to have the radio (for listening to NPR, or getting more music tastes), and i'll use the recording function. i would have completely thought these functions irrelevant previously. i love this player. it sounds great, the fm tuner is unbelievably good in such a tiny package, and rockbox is a work of art. i think it will be awhile before it gets replaced (assuming it doesn't keep locking up

), and i'd be hard pressed to find a player that matches it.

i'm incredibly impresed with these rockbox guys; very very nice software for people doing it for free, or for anything for that matter. it's nice to be using it now that it's well developed, rather than guinea-pigging.

and though i don't intend to use the line out or optical, it's fantastic to have that on the player itself, and actually now that i think about it i WILL use it to connect to my car stereo.

stack on top of that the fact that these players are precious and rare, and that everyone has pretty much abandoned optical and line out on the unit itself, and you've got excellent resale potential.

i defy anyone to say their player is better!
