Gustard X20 DAC

I know if I were to take up needlepoint for a year then I'd be returning to whole new landscape in computer audio.
The internet is already loaded with accounts of people doing what you say with the rasberry pi.  But I wonder if it's really on par with the stuff we're listening to.

If a PCIX card with a clean I2S output comes to market then I'll likely end up selling about $1400 in USB accoutrements.

That is using an ASIO driver under Windows? The stock Core Audio driver on the Mac does not support it because it needs DOP and must piggyback a 768khz PCM format to do it. What would be the best way to get DSD256 to the X20(U) from a Mac?

As a JPLAY user, I have almost no interest in DSD256 native.  If you download a Thesycon driver from its site and install it on any Windows PC, you will be able to take the same picture as I posted.
Some in this thread say they play DSD256 via U12.  The same driver should work for the internal USB board of DAC-X20U (and DAC-X12), makaing U12 redundant, which I also own.
For MAC, the only solution for DSD256 I can think of is to use Boot Camp and to run Windows on it.

Okay let me ask what is probably a stupid question, most computers have HDMI out, mine does, could you run HDMI out of PC to I2S in on the X20? And if so could you them stream up to 512 DSD.

No you can't the I2S on the rear of dac's like the X20 and X12 is a different pin layout. It won't work if you tried.

I tried to open the link for the english manual of the X20 and it will not open on two different computers.  By chance did anyone save the manual on their computer and if so could you please forward a copy to me or PM me?

What size and value is the fuse on the stock x20u?

Getting closer to pulling the trigger on this Dac.

Be well

English version of the X20 user's guide begins on page 20 (scroll down to correct page):

BTW I purchased my X20U from Worthy Audio. It's a pretty new outfit based in Fremont, CA. By purchasing my X20U from their website, I bypassed Amazon's sellers fees, so I paid $799 (shipping included).

I am also interested in purchasing one of these DACs
There are so many places to purchase one, I want the quickest way to get the latest revision at the best price.

I have looked at these vendors:

http://www.shenzhenaudio.com/decoder/l/gustard.html
http://www.worthyaudio.com/gustard/gustard-dac-x20u-with-usb
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GUSTARD-DAC-X20U-Super-Ultimate-HIFI-DAC-2xES9018-XMOS-USB-384KHZ-DSD64-128-256-/111708547958?hash=item1a02592b76:g:2cgAAOSwu4BVlAb8

Could those who have ordered from any of these or other vendors relate their experiences as to how long it takes to get their X20?

BTW, I am on the East Coast (N.C.) in the U.S.

thanks

@MHzTweaker I ordered my X20U sunday evening from Forexman on ebay, I received shipping information that it shipped very early Tuesday US time via DHL.  His web site says they run it in for 24-48 house so it is in line.  I don't have yet but should have early next week.  I did look at the worthy audio site and it looks legit and is US based if they have inventory then that should be the fastest and cheapest way to get one, but it does have a bit more risk than ebay.  I am also right side, E TN.

Ordered on Worthy Audio's website Feb 23rd;shipped from China; delivered Feb 29th to Oregon (my audiophile friend's home). Thirty minutes later he had it plugged in and playing music. He reported that he is very happy with it and that I should consider delaying my return to the States.

Hope this helps you.

I purchased mine, with the latest revision, from "The Digital Store" in China - http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/GUSTARD-DAC-X20U-Super-Ultimate-HIFI-DAC-2xES9018-XMOS-USB-384KHZ-DSD64-128/514210_32415678915.html. They claim to be a major agent for Gustard and accept Paypal. I have ordered a number of Gustard devices from them over the years and have found them to be very communicative and reasonable with no issues. I shipped the goods to NZ using NZPost's Chinese shipping arrangements. It was processed by NZ customs. I ordered the X20u on 15 Nov and it was delivered 3 Dec. I note he uses DHL for US shipping. Price, excluding shipping,  is currently US$778 including the XMOS USB card!

I ordered one about 12 noon today E.S.T. from FOREXMEN on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GUSTARD-DAC-X20U-Super-Ultimate-HIFI-DAC-2xES9018-XMOS-USB-384KHZ-DSD64-128-256-/111708547958?hash=item1a02592b76:g:2cgAAOSwu4BVlAb8

Within a 5 minutes I got an email from a real live person requesting my phone number for DHL shipping. I replied and got another immediate "Thank You" reply.
Nice.

I looked at the other sellers but of which one was cheaper. There were 2 things that made my choice easy:
1- eBay/Paypal buyer protection
2- This vendor had a lengthy proven track record and high rating.

I might have gone with "Worthy Audio" but I just do not know much about them or see a track record yet. Maybe I'll try them for something that doesn't cost nearly $1000 first.

My plan is to connect the X20U to a SOtM USBexp PCI express card which I purchased used for $150 on ebay.

I don't have a "Proper" USB cable yet. Any recommendations from all you Gustard guru's out there?

I do want buy a Gustard U12 later this month or in April to check out DSD128 via IIS over HDMI to the X20 DAC.

thanks
