Ok, not exactly the TRASH, but, in my desk can. I poured it out into a bag today and BAM there was a pair of MDR-V600 sony's. I had actually forgotten that I even had them in the house. They used to be my dads, but they got beaten up pretty bad.

Anyway, the pads are skrewed, totally past their used by date. But i took them off and blew the leftover foam off the driver and tried them out. They sound FANTASTIC. And i just saved myself a whole bunch of money on a closed pair of headphones.

In summary:
-Woo!
-Where do i get replacement pads for cheap?

With love,

ps. pictures in a little bit.

V600 pads are a funny shape. I don't know that you can get them from anyone but sony.

There are some sennheiser pads that might fit, but i don't think anyone has tried.

The v600 gets no respect here. many complain that the bass is too boomy and uncontrolled.

Beyer dt-250 pads work like a charm.

Its really not too bad. I really couldnt say for sure though, i havent listened to it with proper pads. I think with the pleather on there it would be alot more bassy.

It's also got a crappy superglue job going on. But for a free pair of headphones I dont mind. Fits my budget.

You can see the superglue here...ouch...luckily its in a position that isnt noticable when you wear them. These things are at least 10 years old though, so they arent in bad shape other than that.

Pads....well used.

You're thinking MDR-V6 and 7506

The V600 has teardrop shaped earcups

sure np... FYI, partstore.com used to sell Sony headphone parts for the V600 too, and they were typically a little cheaper than the sony parts store. That was a year ago though. I got some MDRV6 earpads there and saved a few bucks.

I have an MDR-V600. I haven't listened to it in years.

I recall it being heavy and sweaty. And bassy.

HD570 velours look like they might fit, but I'm not interested in paying $22 + $5 shipping to find out.

I recall the V600 headband being a squeeky-creaky beast, when I moved my jaw or rotated my head a little.

V600 gets a bum rap -- they aren't all that bad as some peeps make them out to be.

Comfy, easy to drive, bass is rather good, actually, compared to most low-priced cans. I just bought another pair when my OLD pair finally died.

In fact, I just compared them with my new (burning-in) D2000's, and the V600 actually has better SQ, to *my* ears. Clearer highs, for sure, mids similar, bass deeper and more prolific, just a *smidge* looser than the D2000, but still nicer. These D2000's better improve with burn-in, or I'll sell them and use the V600 and V6 cans (for closed cans) until my latest Darth Beyers arrive (soon).
V600 just about as comfy as the D2000, too. Almost.
Yeah, I know -- blasphemy! against FOTM!

What I kept thinking just now, was "these V600's sure do remind me of the DT990's! "
Similar sound signature, to *me*.

I use theV600 mainly as an infrequent change-of-pace, right out of one of my Panasonic portable players.
The V6 I use a LOT.
Maybe just MY ears are just funny compared to other peeps?
