My setup:

SlimX550 -> META 42 -> Ety ER4P

SlimX is powered by either the battery or via the supplied PSU.

META 42 is powered by a linear regulated 24v PSU.

A hum is heard, which I presume to be gound loop. Could I eliminate this by earthing the amp by tying an electrical wire to one of the screw on the back of the amp and tie the other end to an earthing source say the back of the PC (where the metal grill is)?

Thanks for your help.

If the SlimX and the Meta both have 3 wire ac cords (hot/neutral/ground) you may have a ground loop there. Easy solution is a cheap adapter plug sold at hardware stores (etc.) that allows 3 wire plugs to fit 2 wire outlets.
