Yes, it's true! (Applies to speakers, too, even microphones.)

These are my two favorite headphones at the moment (and I don't have the HD800 . . . yet). I find that I listen to the K701 about 80-85% of the time. Although both are very good with the proper equipment, the K701 has the more lifelike presentation to me, although I would not question the heritage, talent, music appreciation, intelligence, or hearing ability of anyone who disagrees, nor would I feel compelled to say anything negative about their mama.

Neither sound "realistic" to my ears. The HD650's have rolled-off highs and boosted lower mids, while the K701's lack lower bass, are sibilant in the upper treble, and have a wonky midrange.

However, I'd say the HD650 is closer to reality with its nice midrange and lack of strident treble - it's quite pleasant to listen to, while the K701 I've always to be sonically vapid.

Snobbery is a virtue nowadays? Why are you entering these sonic depths at all?

Even headphones made for broadcasting, testing, & other audio playback not related to music? So, there's no such thing as monitoring a recordings accuracy without colorization due to the headphone, since you believe all headphones are colored?

listening to the 701s and 650s balanced closes the gap on their sound differences. I find the 701s to have increased bass presence and the 650s to have a larger sound stage with tighter bass.

Can you say that the K1000s are perfect? I wouldn't.

Can swear with your life that your 48s are not coloured?

Can you tell me which is the most perfect woman, car, plane, house, etc in the world?
If you can, then you'll have perfect taste, eyes, ears, hands, etc...

get the picture?

Oh I see, the first poll made in Jan was result in K701 winning.

And you made yet another thread, and K701 seems winning again.

I am in Team Sennheiser, but I must admit that other than HD800, K701 is one of closest cans that sound life-like with good setup. Both HD600 and HD650 are wonderful cans, but I won't say they sound life-like.
