Great sounding closed headphones for work

I use my HD 25-1 II in the office and providing I'm listening at moderate levels (which I generally always do anyway), I can hear the telephone ring. They do isolate very well though. I don't believe they're bad for leaking sound, at least no one has commented on it. I work in an open office in fairly close proximity to others (which also means I don't have my telephone ringer volume set too loud).

My iphone 4 drives them very well (as well as my NuForce uDac I'd say) and they sound great. I don't notice they're on my head either - the velour ear pads are very comfy

The HD25-1s are extremely portable and rugged but also isolate very well. I'm not able to hear things around me that good, not a phone at least...

But I've made two upgrades (which to some might be sidegrades really..) first to srh840s and then to K272HD's. All for the quality of music... I do miss their portability though.

Hmm, I really don't know what you mean by "soul". If you mean coloration and the ability to highlight some areas (possibly the most integral ones..), I don't think I agree. Would you say the W5000s lack soul? They're quite nice...

Soul is something that you know it when it happens.  It's the type of thing that makes me feel a love with the music.  But just like love, it is going to be different for everyone.

To me it is something like being able to listen to David Gilmour play a guitar solo and just be swept away.  A sense of the music just happening.  Some headphones do that and some do not.  I tend to listen to the overall sound, the overall feeling of the music.  I don't tend to try to drill in and try to listen to a specific part.  So soul to me involves an overall feeling and passion while listening.  A headphone that separates sounds in a (what I consider to be) artificialish soundstage and tonal color is going to have a hard time generating that type of soul for me.  That's just me.  Doesn't make it a bad headphone.  Just not a headphone meant for me.

The D2000 and HD600 give me that sense of soul in the music.  The SR325is achieves that with some music but strikes out on other music.  Headphones like the K701 and HD800 do not.  Can't say about the W5000, I haven't heard them yet.
