So the title says it all. I found a place around me that is selling a pair of new HD580 for about $130. I know they get great press around here. I really love the AKG sound I found. I absolutely love the 701s and I want to get the 501s. How would you describe the HD580? I am wondering if I should get them too. I will be using it with a Heed Canamp for now and I might pick up a little dot III soon.

They're very balanced, even representation across the sound spectrum. Probably more bass than the K701, but it's not at all bloated or sloppy. They just sound... right. Detailed, even, slightly warm, and a very refined presentation. I love mine, and I can't think of a better headphone deal than this sound for $130.

That's a great deal on the 580s. If you buy them and don't keep them you should be able to get your money back out of them pretty easily.

Most here love the HD580. I found them lifeless but adequate. Now, in all fairness, it may have been the can, the Sennheiser sound signature or the 580s with my system, or some combination there of.

If you already like the AKG sound you might consider the K601 instead. This is a can that handles whatever you throw at it. Doesn't really excel at any one thing, just does a nice job of handling all music genres. Plus compared to the 580s it sparkles. Not to mislead you, because they really don't shine, but in comparison with the HD580 the 601s really stand out.

But at $130 what do you have to lose?

IMHO the HD580 is the perfect complement to the K701 and K501.

Thanks. So the little dot is good for all those headphones? And does anyone know how the Heed works for the HD580s?

Yeah. I was gonna sell it but, now I might keep it since I have heard that too. I was just wondering how they sound with the Heed.

They're good, but not for everyone. I found them a bit on the boring side, but definitely worth trying, if just to get a feel for the Sennheiser sound and understand other people's reviews/impressions better. And of course it's easy to resell them.

Thanks. That is how I am looking at it now. I am going to get them in the next few days.

HD580 is a fantastic headphone. Better than my current K601 which I use for same music I used to listen with HD580. I have to switch back.

I just paid $150 for a used HD580 and thought it was a killer deal.
