As a big time Grateful Dead Fan, I am looking for the perfect headphone to listen to The Dead.

Curious which "headphones" other big Grateful Dead Fans are wearing to fully appreciate their type of music???

K701, HD600, DT880, W5000 etc...

Depends on what your fave Dead stuff is. Rockin blues? Acoustic studio? Jazzy 74 stuff? 77 stuff? All of it?

K701s work for me, as they are pretty versatile and present a nice soundstage with a very clear bass.

K-701's or HD-650 will get you to where you wanna go

Looks like I will have to try the 701's....

The RS-1's give a nice midrange but lack the soundstage.

I think a nice HD600 synergistic set up will get you there.

The L3000's are also nice with Jerry and the Boys.

If you're looking for a custom IEM....the Westone ES2.

IMO yes . . . . K701 puts me in the front of the theater while Grado's put me onstage

I listen to some dead albums with my senn 580's and it sounds great. Expecially that album, Reckoning which is an all acoustic live album.

However, I've never heard the k701's so can't really compare.

skylab is both a big deadhead and a big darth beyer head and i know he'd highly recommend the combo. he's not big into grado and sold his headphiled grados to a fellow deadhead, who's now a very happy camper. so there ya go with divergent opinions. the faster we go the rounder we get....

I'm sure any good headphone would be appropriate for listening to the Dead.

Grateful Dead pre-concert sound check, circa 1972

I couldn't resist, it's been a while since that was posted so it was about due.

(larger version if you like . . . 1432 x 971 (220 kb) )

and unfortunately so is this . . . .

Thanks for the pic, I looked for but couldn't find a high-res version a while back. From what I've read, the Wall of Sound sounded as great as it looks, with discreet mixing of individual instruments to corresponding speakers. Expensive to maintain though.
