Hopefully you all will be able to help me. I love my metal music, and I love my AD700s for it too, but it seems the low end is just missing. NOw I have read numerouos accounts about how Grado are the ROCK headphones.

The AD700s are very treble and mid based, alot of detail and smooth guitars, and tight bass, but I want to feel that kicker drum sometimes. I would like, if possible a pair of grados with that same detail and smoothness, but with more OOmmphh in the low end. What would the recommendation be?

I would like to keep this a fairly cheap purchase (under $150 if possible)

Some of my favorite bands include In Flames, Iced Earth, Shadows Fall, Opeth, Soilwork, and Trivium, so if any of you can tell me how those sound on your grados much appreciation would be given!

Also, how fatiguing are the grados? I know after a few hours of moderate volume my ears dont hurt, but are tired, which im sure is due to the higher end of the freq.

Thanks!

i will throw in another choice for you - Goldring's DR150. currently only available from the UK - try hificables.co.uk. there is an impressions thread that will let you know what these cans are about. simply put they rock and the SQ is waaaaaaay more than their ~$120 belies.

I'll chime in with warrior on that recommendation. I picked one of those up as well. Just like you I love my AD900 for it's clear detail and that 'airy' signature, but also found it lacked that certain 'oomph' esp for certain genres. The DR150 doesn't have as wide a soundstage (people have reported improvements with different amps though in that regard) but I found them even more forward and in your face and the bass definitely had more punch. Like warrior said, at that price point they can't be beat.

Edit: Also I would recommend getting them from hificables.co.uk, I got mine from them in 5 days. I think another user is still waiting for his from mantra, although I'm not sure if it's a shipping issue, stock availability or perhaps that he's not in the US.
