Hi,

I listen to a lot of house mainly, some trance, and I was wondering if the SR80s are suitable? I'm not looking for bass that rumbles my skull, just enough so it sounds enough if that makes any sense. I kind of have my heart set on them from all the wonderfull comments they have recieved.

I had SR80s, then SR225s, and now RS-1s. I listen to a lot of rock/metal, but I jam out to a bit of pop and techno at times, and my Grados have not let me down. Like you, I don't crave super bass, but it has to be there. IMO they satisfy.

I concur with RuiCanela. I find that whilst the 80's supply the bass, it isn't the right type of bass for dance. I much the Beyerdynamic DT770's for dance, but I have never heard the DT990.

Thanks guys, I should have mentioned I am planning to use these with a Asus Xonar DX2 sound card, not an amp - So will some of the beefier headphones get enough power?

House and Trance music can be a bit on the bright side of sound, If I was you I would look at the AKG headphones. I myself listen to the same type of music you play, I use AKG K701 Headphones with great results!! The AKG are nice smooth deep sounding headphones, as the Grado can be a bit bright.

I also have the Grado SR-125 which sounds good also, but not as good as the K701 NO WAY!!!! The Grado's can sound a bit hard and bright with trance, as I have exp this. Not good for your ears mate.

Anyway you don't have to take my advice.

What?

And yes, Grado's do have the bass and its nice and punchy but if you're looking for lots of it, go Denon or Beyer FWIR

I also listen to a lot of house. I have Grados which I love love love but not really for dance. They will be adequate but not great. That is my opinion anyway. I am all set to buy a pair of ultrasone DJ1 pros for my house music to backup my 325is. Again, in my opinion, you will be FAR happier with a closed phone for dance music. My 325is do have great bass, but as KlamPa stated, it's not the right type of bass.

I have the SR225's and they do not go deep enough for me. I am enjoying my HFI-580's though.

Wow didn't expect to see this thread again! I ended up getting a pair of DT990pros back at christmas time and they're great! I have tried a pair of SR-80s as my mate bought a pair a while ago and I can see what you guys mean - They're good but not for my needs.
