It's been quite a bit since I've been into the audio market, let alone on this forum. I've had my SR60's for about a year and a half now and have to say I'm pretty impressed. Unamped they are amazing, and with my cMoy, the bass boost is a very very nice feature, but the gain (even when set to low) gives to much hiss for pleasure. So my question is what does the SR225(i) have over the Grado SR60? Also, I was considering the HD 595's. I know they're supposedly a more laid back, and different sound signature altogether, but I'm also kinda curious as to what Senn's sound like.

Just a thought, too, but: Could I buy a sound attenuator for the Grado's (where would I get one?) paired with the cMoy and would that cure my problem? Also, would getting bowl pads help too? If I was going to try Senn's, would it be better to go with a HD 555 at first to see which sound signature I like better?

I made a similar upgrade (SR80 to SR225i), and I have to say, it's definitely worth it. Everything is just so much more refined. Since you're going from flats to bowls, the difference will be even greater!
Don't know much about Senns though.

I dont have an SR225 to give you any suggestion, but if i was you i would keep the SR60 and go for the 595. I have listened to the 555 and 595 and i prefer the 595. It has smoother sound and deeper bass with more detail. And then Senn sound signature is very different to Grado. I'm using a pair of SR80 and an hd650, i think it is such a pain if i have to choose only 1 of them. That said, give Senn a try you will see a whole new sound that for many of Head-fiers, a reference sound

like pumbaa said grado and senn have totally different sound ... one is laid back while the other gets you more involved, but why don't you consider hd600? they are pretty much better the 595, but if you liked the grado sound you should go for the 225 or the 325i

Well I'm gonna try and keep it right at $200. I may take a dive into the FS forums to see if there are any being offered. Also remember, the only headphone amp I have is a cMoy that features bass boost and a gain control, but no volume control, so I'm sure this limits me quite a bit. The only reason the 595's seem more attractive at this point is because they are 22 bucks cheaper than the Grado's lol.

if that's the only reason, just go for the Grado's.

The HD5X5 series aren't really a good example to what Sennheisers sound like. Go with the upgraded Grado anyhow. All the excitement of the Grados will be completely absent with the 595s. They are really very boring cans.

It is good to enumerate more dissatisfied point with the current state.
Is there dissatisfaction in the installation feeling?
Do you want to hear it from the current state because of a better sound?
If it is the latter, it is necessary to select it from Grado.

I went from SR60 to MS1 to SR125 and then SR225 = love em all - each has their own attributes. The SR125 was an eye opener for me - an underated a pair of cans.

I think for now I may just get a pair of bowls to see what they're like. Anyone know a good place to get them? I think TTVJ sells them, but are there others? Also, is there a cMoy or is one of the penguin amps good for a IEM or a Grado of low impedance? I really am not fond of the hiss, and this amp would be great if I could turn the gain down more.
