Now i have heard grados before and i love em, but im i have never heard any alessandros/grados (i know grado was involved) before and i was wondering what the difference is in the sound of both of their lower end models is.

I haven't heard any of them but from reading about them I've got the impression that the SR80 got a little more bass and eventually clearity/details than the SR60 and the MS-1 is supposed to be more neutral then both (not as harsh trebble and a little more muddy bass) and accodring to alessandro and probably some other on the forum more similair to the SR125.

But personally I have no clue and all of it could be wrong for all I know, I've ordered a pair of MS-1 thought, I hope they was the better option.

edit: Switched RS for SR.

BTW, it is the SR series, not RS. The RS series cans are high-end reference Grados with mahogany sound chambers.

Now, to answer you questions...for reference I own the SR-60 and will soon be getting the MS-1.

SR-60 is an extremely fun, amazingly valued can IMO. The bass can be a tad boomy on some songs, but on most it is well controlled with good impact. As commonly mentioned in other topics, the highs are sparkly and clean. The mids are very fun sounding, I think them and the highs are really what makes the cans so fun.

From what I have heard the SR-80 is nearly identical to the SR-60 except with better controlled bass and improved soundstage. They also come with the Grado bowl pads, which are often said to improve soundstage, remove the mid-bass bump that comes from the comfies, and emphisize highs. I can't comment on my preference since I personally do not own the bowl pads or SR-80, but this is based off other people's posts.

The MS-1 is basically a SR-80 made to fit the needs of a musician. Meaning, better tamed bass and highs, with the same Grado mids. As soon as I get my MS-1 I will try and post a comparison to the SR-60. I will also pick up some bowls from TTVJ or HeadRoom.

The next major step up from the MS-1 would be the SR-225. If you have the money to burn, go for these cans.

i have tried the sr60&sr80 and it think there is a big difference in sound. The sr80s are much better cans. The sr80s do a much better job at bass. Also it has better overall detail than the sr60s (mostly because of the improvement in bass). I dont find that the sr125 are worth an extra $50 because they sound almost EXACTLY the same as the sr80s but with a higher price tag. As i have already said i cannot say anything about the ms1.

Also which ones would do better at metal and rock: sr80 vs ms1?

There must be at least an hundred post about this exact topic. Search something like Grado Vs. Alessandro and that should answer your question ten time faster than posting this new thread up.

So will that make them sound boring?

No, its just more neutral and less colored. It still has most of "PRaT" and energy what makes Grados great.

I just got my Alessandro ms-1 headphones today. They shipped to Finland in less than a week, but customs held it back a while. My brother has the Grado sr-60 and now i got to compare them side by side allthough with a sony mp3 player, but with high bitrate(lame encoded 192kbit vbr). My first impression is that the ms1 is a much better headphone in every way. Sound is much more natural, more extended in both bass and highs. The sound is not so forward and the highs are a lot smoother. The ms sounds just about "right" for my taste. Can't wait to get this hooked up with my x-can v2 + cambridge azur cd player.

The MS-1 is actually comparable to the SR-125, not the SR-80.

Does anyone actually know the differences? From the webpage it seems like:

SR-60: comfies
SR-80: + Better cable and bowls.
SR-125: + Better cable in speakers.
MS-1: As SR-125 but with comfies. ?

Or something like that, to lazy to look now, is that all there is to it? Will MS-1 be SR-125 if you add bowls?

Also was it a bad idea to skip bowls and get HD414 pads instead? Should I have taken bowls aswell? To late now because the shipping will add to the price, also I don't want to pay for it all.

If comfies are "bad" why are they used at all?

Anyone who has heard the SR-60, 80, 125 and MS-1 can attest that the MS-1 is a completely unique headphone. It is not just a 125 with comfies on. If anything, you could call it a sidestep from the 125, but its sound signature (and for that matter, the signature of the Alessandro line) is unique from the Grado Prestige Series.

SR Series = Agressive and impactful to varying degrees

MS-1 = More neutral and analytical than SR series

I don't think the comfies are bad. In fact, I use a pair of quarter modded comfies on my RS-1's.

But I don't think the MS-1's would benefit from quarter modding, the treble is just fine on the MS-1's.

If it ain't broke...
