I want to upgrade from the Koss KSC-50 and these fit my budget perfectly under $70, OR are there any other you head-fi'ers recommend? I could increase my budget to$100 if you guys convince me.

I mostly listen to metal\rock. I will run them on my Sony D-NE510 cd/mp3/atrac player unamped.

P.S. I hate you guys, i think i am being converted to the audiophile religion.

Grados are generally recommended for rock so I'd suggest those if you don't need any isolation and find them comfortable. I have SR-225s and love them for rock and after using them for a couple weeks I'm starting to find them a lot more comfortable than I did initially. Plus they're extremely easy to drive, and I'd imagine the SR-60's are even easier.

if metal and rock is your thing, erase the other two off your list and BUY the grados. i promise you wont regret it.

and dont hate us until one month from now, when you've realized you're a broke man with a lot more audio equipment.

Man that is so true. Within a week of wandering around these boards I have spent so much money.

Grados are somewhat polarizing--some love them, some hate them. I reviewed the SR60 vs. the HD497, and there's a link to that in my .sig. I haven't heard the DT231, but I'm sure they provide more isolation than those two--it'd be hard to isolate any worse than the Grados, but then, that's not the point of the Grados, either.

I'm telling you... spend an extra 30 and get the 555s instead. The are supposedly much better than the 497s. You'll have to get a sale though if you want them for around 100. Froggle for the best price.

I can easily imagine that the 555s are a lot better than the 497s...
