Hi, I have an iPod and want to get headphone that are under $70. I already have the portapro's and was looking for something better. My main choices are either the Grado SR60 or the D22 Eggo. Help...

IMO the SR60 will smoke the d22 but then again if you intend to use them as portables the SR60 leak quite a bit of sound...

Hey, been reading around here for a while, but this is my first post, but I was just wondering how the SR60's compare to the D66's. Also, how how the SR80's compare to the D66's? Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the quick reply's, i really dont care much about sound leakage. I will be using it with my computer too...

What about d66 vs SR60s? I might spent the extra $30, if the d66 is much better...

IMO the SR60 is better than the D66 as well...if leakage isn't a problem get the SR60...you won't be disappointed...

The search function is your friend...

There's been plenty of threads about the sr60s v. the d66. It's a subjective thing. Many members of team Grado will get out there and defend the sr60s to the death, and in some of the later threads, the Team Eggo members were off doing something else. In other words, you can tell by reading the threads which group of people showed up for the discussion.

It's a subjective thing. I can tell you that I very much preferred the Eggo. Many will say otherwise - and there's lots of anti-Eggo sentiment ATM - just keep in mind to only regard the opinions of those who have owned both these headphones.

You can't go wrong with either one, even if I do prefer the Eggo.

When talking purely about sound quality I find the D66 to sound a bit better than SR60 with the stock comfy pads because the treble is a bit too piercing. But when used with the modded Senn pads the SR60 ends up being the one sounding a bit better. But the SR60 I find isn't good at all for portable use because of that thick and long cord, no folding and the quite excessive leakage both in and out. For only indoors use with no one in your vicinity you'll bother, get the SR60 and the Senn pads that vwap sells modified and inked black for a reasonable price. For both portable and indoors use I find the D66 to certainly be the better choice.

I find the Grados with the Senn pads kill the D66's. With the stock pads they're only much better. For sound quality only a little ranking, occured recently. As you can see different people/different opinions. The Grados are not a portable phone though. Don't kid yourself. I thought I could deal, but had to buy a second phone for that (V6 which I also think sounds better than the D66's). It's not just the isolation with the Grados. The cord isn't very flexible and it's too long (not a good combo for port use).

My complaints about the D66's are well known and I don't want to rehash them here, but I will say if you're one of the "it's all about the mid-range" people or like music styles that exist mostly within this area (say j-pop, female vocalists, etc.) the Eggos are one of the best phones under $100. If you're one of the "it's all about the whole range" people, you may not find them extremely accurate.

They are accurate whether you like it or not, just because they are accurate doesn't mean that they have to sound good...a perfectly accurate pair of headphones would sound terrible to us, believe me, they would, the sound would be soo different.

, I like my A500's better, I think they sound better, but the D66's are more accurate, they're Precise.

Okay, since you seem so sure of this and any disagreement must be do to personal likings, aside of your personal preferences, care to prove they're extremely accurate with some external data, charts, etc.?

Notice I said some may not find them extremely accurate. I certainly don't. I think they have a very good midrange, but at times can sound hollow and veiled. I also think the bass is lacking. I sometimes doubt the artists wanted this exact sound leaving the studio. You say the Eggos are extremely accurate... period. Prove it.

IMHO, the Eggos aren't so much accurate, as they mimic accuracy. I do think this is the sound that the artist wants you to hear.... as opposed to what's really there. I don't find them lacking at all in the bass, it's just that everything is wrapped up in a pleasing package that's difficult to describe unless you've heard them broken-in. Unbroken in they do sound hollow.

The v6 is said to be more analytical, so they'd probably show you more of what's really on the recording than the Eggo would.

I also think it's a source thing. Maybe the same thing that made the sr60s downright painful makes the Eggos sound great? Who knows... but I do think it's going to be hard to prove that the Eggos are more accurate than the sr60 or sr80, because in reality I don't think they are.

edit - The sr60, 80 or Eggo - while all having their fan clubs and some phones being better than others are probably not going to be accuracy kings.
