Grado SR325x what do they do that the HD650 HD6XX don't do better?

While I patiently wait for my replacement 325x, let me just say I like my HD6xx. Anyone on the fence buying blind may be best served by betting on tried and true (you know exactly what you will get with the Sennheiser classics). And the Massdrop version is a steal at the price.

I use the HD6xx at the office. They don’t leak enough to bother people around me. They give me a nice, tight soundstage with enough detail to be enjoyable and the so-called veil works to my advantage. These cans do not demand my attention. They do not distract me, if that makes sense to you. They are also quite comfortable.

I don’t know yet how the 325x and the PS500e compare, but the latter is a lot more fun and engaging (to me) than the HD6xx. Of all the Grados I’ve owned, the GS1000e is my favorite for classical music or jazz, while the PS500e is my favorite for rock and pop. I’ve owned a lot of Grados in the past, and the PS500e definitely is a different animal — the “Grado sound” definitely evolved there.

My guess is the 325x will prove to be entertaining to me. I imagine them having the PS500e qualities I like (detail, nice soundstage, precise imagine) but with a more traditional Grado sound. We’ll see in a week or so :-)

I have both the HD6xx and SR325x, it's not a question of better , it's just a question of using them for different music.

For classical and Jazz I use the HD6xx

For everything else the Grado
