So i am looking into getting a new pair of Cans and have two choices left the Grado 325's or the Denon 2000's

Having spoken to friend an family who have a mixture of headphones they both are split.

I tend to listen to the following Genre's ( Tend to listen to music around 3-5 hours a day )

Soul
Rock
Alternative Rock
Acoustic
Classical
R&B

I will be playing mostly of my Vaio & Iphone and will get an AMP later on. Other then that i will play them of my harman kardon system

While I would like the headphones to cover the above genre’s it is not important that they do as I will buy a second pair in a few months time.

If you guys could give me your opinion’s on the both

Jonathan

Grado = airy, bright, detailed, punchy bass (might be too bright from a phone amp)
Denon = closed, lots of bass, reasonable detail, less midrange than Grado (don't know how well a phone will drive them)

IMO, the Grado is the better headphone for vocals and acoustic but an IEM might be better suited with a phone.

Both phones can be used enjoyably with out an amp on a iPhone or laptop, although of course an amp is recommended to take full advantage of the phones.

But I listen with my Grado's and Denon's w/o an amp and still like both of them.

I think Denon's cord is more fragile than Grado's.

The poster above did a good job comparing the sound. The Denon's would be more comfortable, but the Grado's are not uncomfortable once they break YOU in.

I enjoy both greatly.

Both are nice phones. Some people find the highs a little too harsh on the 325s, suggesting the 225s are the perfect phone in the prestige series.
The Denons are closed and will give you more thump, which isn't necessarily what you need for all the genres you mentioned.

I have decided to go with the Grado's I took delivery of them this morning.

My mate said he will lend me his Denon 2000's so that i can make a comparison with them both.

Once i have done i will post a review comparing the both

You'll be happy - I love both. If you can get a Little Dot I+ sometime - it's a great little amp, really inexpensive and simply was made for my 325is' and Denons.

Under those circumstances and with that type of music, I'd have gone with the Denon hands down.

Get both. I have D2000 and my next headphones will be 325is (or HF2). They are different enough, but not necessary one is better than another.
