Ill agree with this. Also unamped I thought the bass from the SR-80 was ever so slightly muddy

Seems like all the specs on the MS-1 (other than price

) match up with SR-125, so they seemed like the better deal to me. I had my SR-60s for a month, then my aunt heard them and bought them off me(she was leaving the country in a couple days, and didn't have time to order a brand new pair). I had discovered this place shortly before selling her the SR-60s, so I decided that I might as well try upgrading instead of just replacing them. After looking around at the various threads here, it really seemed like MS-1 was a better deal, so I decided to take the plunge, and placed my order for the MS-1s last Friday. Alessandro's website needs some updating, cuz the security certificate was expired when I placed my order

! I dropped my aunt off at the airport on Monday morning, expecting to be without that wonderful Grado sound for a week or so... but shortly after I got back home... The doorbell rang, and it was the mailman holding a very familiar sized box.

. So far, I'd have to say that I like the clearer and more neutral sound of the Alessandros more than the SR-60, but I'm eager to see those SR-60s again so I can do a direct comparison.

Aren't they the same meaning "dark, not clear"?

I have not heard the MS1, but by all logic & reason it seams to be the best thing to go for at that price point.

Getting back to your original question, I really liked the SR80. Though it may not be a significant upgrade, I would say its worth the equally not so significant $26. The Sharp highs of the SR60 is attenuated making it ever more relaxing and non-fatiguing and also has more bass.

I have not really listened to them much unamped, but many here claim they work just perfect. Between the SR60 & SR80, the differnece can be narrowd by getting the Bowls for the SR60 ($15). But still, from my personal experience, its well worth the upgrade.
