You must be blessed, now you won't have to spend thousands of dollars on headphone equipment! I wish I were like you, but alas

Maybe you need a bigger soundstage? Maybe you are not heaaring much difference because SR 60 isn't that much more expansive than an iBud (for inexperienced ears anyway)? Try out an entry level circumaural headphone at some local store and see if you can spot a difference ?

You just aren't paying attention, and the grados aren't burned in yet. I did an A/B test for my friend who had never listened to any headphones worth mentioning, and he immediately could tell the difference. SR-60s vs ibuds, and 15 minutes later he was a headfier. There is a world of difference between the two.

^ Well...dur he could tell a difference. I could tell if something is either clamped into my head or invading my ear canal

The difference between hi-fi and low-fi headphones is sort of like the difference between HD and normal tv: it's not like the image is going to be different in some fundamental way, rather it will be cleaner, clear-er, more articulate, better defined, however you want to put it.

Generally when comparing headphones, you want to have a reference, so lets make that your SR-60's. Listen to the SR-60's for a while and let your ears adjust to them--for simplicity you can think of the SR-60's as being the way the music should sound. Then try going back to the ibuds. Your ears won't always notice an improvement in the step up, but they almost always catch the loss associated with a step down.

sinafl, do you feel like you've ever heard a hi-fi sound that you could really appreciate on another pair of headphones? If so, and if you feel like you really aren't getting that from the Grados, then do you think it could be possible that the pair you got from Amazon are faulty? It does happen sometimes. If you think this might be the case, you should try to find someone who knows these phones to listen to yours, who could tell you if there is something the matter.

I know exactly what you are talking about... 'coz I have been somewhat in your possition before

... let me explain...

The first good headphone I purchased was the SR60... and it didn't knock my socks off... not even close to how most folks here rave about it!!! But there is a reason.... it worked for me and it will sure work for you too...

1. Stop using your earbuds all together!! I know you won't believe me, but you possibly can't imagine how harmful your earbuds are to your ears. They emit only Hi-Frequency sounds and listening through them all the time makes your brain adapt to it and your ears temporarily in-sensitive a bit.. Give a few days total break from them.. I suggest at least week before you ever try them again. This will rejuvenate your ears a bit and you will begin to hear more and more you what the SR60 has to say.

I used to use the RS1 all the time when I had em... Then I got an iPOD and used the buds mostly for only two days.. and you can't imagine my disbelief when I went back to the RS1!!! I used to listen at low volumes on the RS1 and I could enjoy all the nuances in the music, but after the buds... dude... apart from having to pump up the volume much past what I used to.. I could NOT hear the refinement, the amazement I used to get with the RS1... it simply and almost completely vanished. At that moment, I understood why all my ear-buds wearing friends used to listen at more than double the volume I use and still never went WoW!! on my headphones..

Our ears are all not the same.. for some, the buds may not make the difference I am talking about above, but for others like me, it has a drastic negative impact.

Conclusion: Don't use the buds for a week at least and only use the SR60. Trust me on this one.. if possible give a couple days of complete rest to your ears without using anything. It worked for me when I came from the ear-buds world to the headphones

The SR-60: In order to appreciate the SR60, you will have to actually walk the path.. the path of expensive upgrades.. I have spend more than $2k on headphones (peanuts compared to most here), but after all those upgrades, go back the SR60.. It is only then you will understand what a value for money it is. But first, you will have to fix your ears and learn to appreciate good sound!

I think strickly listening to the Grado's for a week or so is the right advise. If you can't tell the difference after then switching back to to ibuds then maybe something is indeed wrong. The SR60s are quite the improvement over the ibuds.

I don't see what's the big deal? It's just that you can't perceive the difference between the iBuds and the SR-60s - it's not that it's your fault, your ears just don't care.

This is exactly the same situation as my housemate, who uses HD650s out of his motherboard. I let him use my Dynahi and VDA-1/VAC-1 before, and he couldn't tell the difference. To top it off, he couldn't tell the difference between the HD650+motherboard and the L3000+DHA3000.

The more you force yourself to look for differences, the more likely you'll find differences that aren't there to try to justify the purchase.

Everybody's different, just be happy you don't have to shell out so much money.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am going to try to not listen to my ear buds for a week and see what happens. Yeah I do believe your right Cerebral about the ear buds damaging your ears. I had to always pump the music on high and by the time I was done, I could never hear anyone whispering to me. Is there a specific program I could try to test out and see if indeed my headphones are up to par with Grado's??

I don't know about that. To me that would be a curse. Not being able to hear & appreciate the fine details of something I love so much (music). In this case money takes the back seat.
