It fell apart at the base of the metal rod. So the actual right headphone fell off the metal rod.

Has this happened to anyone else? How do I fix it?

They're Grados; they fall apart. It's happened to a lot of people's headphones.

Your best bet would probably be some superglue.

happened to my SR-80s swear to god, i ended up screwing them back on, and i rold them and the other guy hasnt noticed/complained about it.

it was on another pair though, ive had two pairs of SR-80s because i was trying flats but i sold those on ebay after. theres a reason they switched to bowls...

Our Grandkids dropped my MS-1 into the base of their computer chair during the four months or so they that they were using them last year right after I got my MS2i, and even though a few major chunks of insulation were torn from the cable between the "Y" block and both housings when they inadvertantly gave the chair a spin, the phones didn't fall apart and all I did was add some electrical tape over the damaged areas and take the phones back from them for a few months. They're back to using them again, but promise to be more careful!

But I've had no problems at all with either my MS-1 or MS2i. From what I'm seeing here at home, these things are built like tanks!

....at least MY two sets!

Yeah, my metal rods pulled out. I tried the superglue, but then they came off. Then I tried JB weld, and I believe that bond is much stronger than how I get them. When my other side falls off, I will definitely be fixing it with JB weld. It's great stuff, and perfect for this application.

I've heard that here a number of times and it is good to remember for the moment one of my sets decides to 'let go'... but it does make you wonder why they don't just use epoxy in the first place

Wait a sec... didn't you want to get a Sony for that reason?

What happened? I still have mine for sale on the FS forum, and I drastically reduced the price.

Yeah; the Sony sounded like a good idea for a while, and maybe still is, but a couple things have happened to keep things pretty much the same. The kids have actually seemed to have learned their lesson and are actually taking much better care of the MS-1 and really don't want a different sound to listen to. And the MS-1 being open, I can keep better track of the level that they're listening at.

I also discovered that while the Sonys are closed, they really don't have the level of isolation I was looking for to hide from the wife and kids as much as I'd like!

....for that I'd almost need some DT770M!

And then, to make matters worse; a new amp is really, really trying to push its' way into my system.

So priorities have once again changed.

...it's all a part of this total Head-Fi illness, I guess.
