Having heard only the SR60 and 80, I can say I prefer the 60; slightly muddier in the bass region, but I found the highs on the 80s to be a bit *too* high.
The MS1s are usually said to be a "more neutral" version of the 80s/125s. Or something like that.

IMO MS-1 is the way to go if you're looking for Grado sound, which I know sounds rather strange. But I think a fairly balanced sound with the Grado punch is the way to go, and $99 shipped is a good price for what I consider a nice step up from SR60.

ive herd the sr-80 is actually worse than the sr-60 unamped, so does the same hold true for the ms-1? ms-1 sounds worse unamped than the sr-60? because id assume the ms-1 would need more power than the sr-80.
was ist los?

skitlets aka vingo, there is a better choice for an amp over the cmoy, the A47, designed for Grados in mind and a clone, which is also a nice match.

Actually the MS-1 are a little bit easier to drive than SR60, so no need to worry about that.

i've had the sr80 and have the sr60 now. i have a cmoy and don't like them with the grados b/c it's way too bright and forward. i love the grado sound but the cmoy is too much. it's probably the opamp in the cmoy. i've heard the ms1 is less forward sounding, so might be the better match for the cmoy.

Good decision. MS-1's are the only one among them which feature UHPLC oxygen free copper voice coils. They come with soft pads, so I would recommend to get the flat pads from Todd the Vinyl Junkie.

Please give us your impressions when they arrive. At the price these are sold for I'm considering them just as a second set of cans for travelling, but if they can beat my Portapros I'll grab them and take good care of them.
Cheers,

to be honest, im a complete newbie. these will be my first pair of decent headphones, so i have nothing to compare them to. only thing i had were the sony mdr-v300, which are not good at all. so dont take my impressions too serious!
edit-- ill prolly let my frend and head-fi member was ist los? listen to em and fill u in. 2 opinions better than 1.

I think modded Sennheiser pads make more sense for anything less than SR325. I mean, why spend $35 on one set of pads for a $100 headphone? I doubt you'd hear the difference on the MS1s; the extra comfort of Senn pads is easy to feel tho
