Seriously... it's allowed to post eBay auctions for everyone to see, but that doesn't mean it's much appreciated! It ends up driving the price up so that it rarely is a good deal for the final buyer, and the people who are looking for the product would probably have found the auction already!

In that case, oops.

No oops involved. It's perfectly acceptable to post ebay items, and this is the Forum those alerts belong in. Some people feel that posting alerts drives the price up. Others appreciate someone pointing them to the item they've been looking for.

There's no consensus on this, and likely never will be. DanG might not appreciate the posting, particularly if he was going to bid on them, but others who really want them might appreciate the posting as much as he doesn't.

FWIW, when I got my HP-1's, the item was posted here about six hours before the auction close, so I've been in the situation DanG described with a fairly expensive item. I will still defend the person's right to post that alert without having to feel guilty about it, even though I may have lost money on it.

It's a free market folks...and sometimes you have to pay market value, rather than stealing something on the sly...

Heh - Typical "newb" maneuver, hoping to win friends fast, ends up pissing people off. Heh.

Most here are quite eBay savvy and have been well-aware of this auction for a while. There are those who will bid on an item just to see how high others have bid, or just to drive the price up because they can. They have little or no intention of actually buying the product. These are the same people who like to push people's buttons in every day conversation, because they know how.

If I find something in which I think someone I know might be interested, I just PM that person (or persons) directly. No need to broadcast to the whole world. But Hirsch is right - it is not against policy, it is a free market, and there is definitely no agreement on this practice.

I personally don't see the point (see first sentence).

It usually ends up resulting in more people bidding at the last minute, driving the price up later rather than earlier.

It really is your choice and it really is okay to do if you want to do it; however, I just wanted to let you know that it isn't necessarily doing everybody a favor. It's cool that you wanted to help people out, though.

I don't think there are any statistics out there that prove this is true more than is normal on any other ebay auction. I doubt that more last-minute "snipes" happen because someone posts an item here that's for auction on ebay that may be of interest to some/most/all of the people here.

And yes, I must admit, that I have personally benefitted (twice, actually) from someone here posting an item on ebay.

And you know you paid more than you had to because some people here were "dicking" around (not that there's a direct correlation though).

I'm not familiar w/ the old Grado sound. Will the SR300 best the SR325? I'm just curious. Won't bid against anyone here. Good luck for Grado fans.
