Well I just got my second (first?) pair of audiophile quality headphones today after returning my Senn HD500s. I went to buy the Grado SR-80s but those were out of stock so I sprung for the 125s instead.

All I have to say is WOW, I can see what you guys are raving about in terms of sound. These headphones are great, I love them. I can't wait to hear these things with the Grado RA-1 replica I'm gonna build. I can't imagine these things sounding better

Some like the Grado sound some like the Senn sound. I think I like the Grado sound. I know I've only heard the worst sounding Senns but I really like the livliness of these phones. I love the feeling of being right on stage with the artists.

I know that I'm not experiencing the best possible sound with just my 125s outa my SlimX but I can't imagine it getting better. We'll see, I'm very excited to hear even better sound and not having any regrets with shedding out the cash.

I'm a believer now,
Chad

P.S. Does anybody have a recommendation of a CD I should buy to really show what these things can do? I don't really have any set in stone musical preferences.

. When getting a cd player i highly suggest getting one that is not bright or sibilant because it can ruin the grados. Maybe a tubes CD player so its smooooooooth

if and when you get the itch to explore other options with your SR-125, consider getting an extra set of pads and cutting them down so they are more like flats.
that is how I use my SR-125s now and the shrill that used to bother me is gone.

For the pads issue, one could purchase the neon yellow replacement pads of the Sennheiser 414's and get the same effect, without much cutting at all.

As for music. The Grados rock with rock. Honestly they will sound great with any type of music. What you want to stay away from are bad recordings that have horrible upper range sound. The 125's can definitely accentuate the treble and it can come off overly bright, shrill and down-right horrible. Try some electronica, that would do well, something like Underworld, nice bass extension, great mids when they use some synth strings and sample strings, and some sweet high tones that will knock your socks off.
