Grado Signature HP100 SE

I’ve had the hp100se for a few weeks now and I think they’re quite good. If I could change one thing I’d probably knock the brightness down a little and maybe bring some part of the mids forward. If not just knock the treble down slightly. They do not bother me but the treble can kind of stick out on certain tracks. I’m more of an average listener who’s owned some high end headphones so I don’t know all the audio terms. To me I don’t feel like these are less detailed than the zmf caldera. From memory I don’t think the lcd 5 is way more detailed than these either but I didn’t care for them because they always sounded compressed almost like they made compressed music sound worse. These things make some songs that I’ve listened to in the past have more life and sound less flat and muddy. I can see people having issues with the treble but maybe a tube amp could help. I tried the flat pads and they are a no go for me everything sounded noticeably worse. I prefer rock and metal and I think these really shine with it no matter how crappy the recording is.

Agreed. On my RS1, bass is nicely extended with any pads, but impact increases from G -> L -> Flats. I mentioned the G pads with the RS1's as I initially thought the pads might've been responsible for the lack of deep bass on the GS1000e's, but that's not the case.
Well, GS1000 never been known for a good solid bass. It's one of the reasons why I steered away from statement series - simply because it doesn't fit my application. But HP100 might be a gamechanger, hopefully I can get it soon and call it an end game.

I wonder if the Brise Audio Yatono HP Ultimate could be a good alternative cable for the HP100 ? any other cable suggestion ?

While I’m not familiar with that cable, I would think a thick gauge copper cable would be a good option (to warm things up a bit)

Eletech Inferno could work well although I have to say I’m satisfied with the stock cable at the moment. Impressed with these headphones after 3 days. Enjoying the deeper bass on a Grado.

If you are a RS2e owner, do the new cans sound "fast" enough with a similar level of immediacy? I disliked the RS2e when putting G-cushions on them, so I wonder if it's the same with a headphone that comes with G-cushions to begin with.

IMO using cable as EQ to fix a shortcoming is putting good money after bad.

That’s why I have not bought this headphone. That said, using a cable as a small EQ tweak on a headphone you love is money well spent!

I’m surprised by the lack of video reviews. Where are DMS, Resolve and Joshua? Usually they are way ahead of the game.

You already know Resolve will hate it (like all Grados). DMS talked about briefly in one video (where he relays how he asked to measure it at CanJam Dallas and Rich Grado said No). DMS then mutters, “It was so bright.”

Can obviously only speak for me, but I could not care less.

I’ll give their review. Will save you time. “Grado’s are horrible don’t understand why anyone would buy one”
