OK here's a deal

I own:

a laptop with Echo Indigo PCMCIA card, and I have MX500 Senns connected to it

I love how they sound! to me, the bass is great and the sound is clear

I was thinking of upgrading to Grados a long time now

and was wondering if SR60s sound better than MX500s?

I thought of SR225s or SR325s but if i like MX500s upgrading to SR225s would be useless, cause SR60s will sound great for me!

I would reccommend getting a cheap external sound card like the Sonica first for your laptop (or get an M-Audio Audiophile USB if you can afford it), then get the SR-60/80 (again, higher-end if you can afford it. I'd go for the 225's if I had the cash). I went straight to the 80's and love them. They are TRULY a contrast to the MX500's. Trust me, you will be amazed at the difference in every aspect.

if he has an echo indigo, i don't think he needs to get an external usb sound card because the indigo is supposed to sound pretty good, also it more portable than a usb based solution.

i've never heard the sr225, but they are supposed to be a huge improvement over the sr60. however i do have the sr60 and mx400 (pretty much the same as mx500) and the sr60 is a huge improvement over the earbuds in pretty much every area.

i also have the echo indigo and its head amp seems to be pretty powerful and noisefree. i use it to drive both hd600s and sr60s at the same time with good results (pretty good sound and max transportability).

MD1032, I can't buy any other audio card, but I can afford SR225 maybe even 325, but is it worth it? since I already like MX500s <- and this is the lowest quality for you guys, i doubt i'm that good to notice the difference between SR60s and SR225s, maybe i'm wrong!

oh, if there is a store nearby, maybe you can audition the sr225 vs sr60 for yourself, just in case you may not like the grado sound. the sr60 would definitely be a great improvement over the mx500 though.

nope, there isn't a store anywhere near me

I listen to everything but rap and r&b

mostly to - classical rock/rock/metal(not too much crazy metal)

are those good for that type of music?

Alessando MS2 = $ 299.00, can't stretch out that far

what bothers me is that MX500s have 18-22k frequency range while the SR225 has 20-22k

isn't the freq range very important?

Not really, the sony mdr-r10 is only 20-20. The human ear can only hear 20-20 at best ( most people have less ). Maybe if we were bats it would matter but other wize I don't think it really has a differance.

Most headphones have trouble producing very low bass. I would be surprised if you could hear any frequencies below 30 hz on the MX500's and I think that's pushing it on the Grados as well.

Keep in mind that frequency response is not a standard measurement. It is important to consider the variance in spl over the frequency range. A frequency response graph will show you this.

Overall, I wouldn't concern myself with any frequency response numbers, unless the variance is more than +/- 3db or the high end is less than 20 khz.
