When I recently purchased a pair of Grado Sr-125i's, I thought that they came with a pair of L-cushions, but apparently they come with the standard S-cushions.

Since I will be buying a new set of pads, I was wondering if anyone has used the "salad bowl" G-cushions, and if they have, would you recomend them for the 125i's or just stick with the L-cush? Will the G-cushions even fit my cans?

I don't really care about comfort that much, spend a year wearing 30lbs of bullet proof vest in the desert and little things like 'headphone comfort' don't really matter that much.

I just want the best sound. Advice?

The bagels are usually only recommended for the MS-1, MS-Pro, and GS/PS 1000. With bagels, there is a big loss of midrange and an unpleasant bump in bass and treble. I have experienced this with my SR225i, and can say that I vastly prefer the stock bowls.

Those headphones are meant to use the bowls, even though they come with the more inexpensive comfies. The comfies will really limit the sound of that headphone... they really only work with the SR-60, so buy the bowls and it'll be like putting on a different pair of headphones.

i heard the sr80i's come with comfies now, but i didn't know the sr125i's did as well.

Wow, even after I posted my comment I only half-believed that the SR125 came with comfies. I can see them equipping the 60 and 80 with the comfies, but the 125 is an "audiophile" enough can that they should at least include decent pads.

I'm a Grado man, but even I will admit that this is disappointing. Given that new SR125s cost about $150 in the States, and the bowls will cost you $20 or $30, or about 15 to 20% of the cost of the phones, some may think it is a pretty significant expense to upgrade to the "correct" cushions.

I recently did a short comparison of the SR-80i and the SR-60i, and make no mistake, the SR-80i's were tuned for bowls... they sounded really muffled and bad with the comfies.

I'll admit it: sometimes I wonder if all the changes associated with the "i" transition in the Grado lineup had more to do with cost cutting than sound improvement. I'm not saying that this is the case; instead, I'm just saying that sometimes I wonder about it. I really do prefer the pre-"i" version of the Grados.

Quarter mod those bad boys... comfort and it will open them up. Or bowls, but as mentioned, that'll cost you.
