Hi, just wonder what you prefer, the HP-1000 or PS-1.

I'm on a rollercoaster ride of what to buy, i want them both but don't have the money

And why is the ps-1 more expensive, just because its low production numbers?

Thanks!

PS1.

It's more expensive mostly because they were made more recently, and the people that bought them still value them. The huge numbers of hp2s sold means people still stumble across really cheap pairs, so that holds down the value a bit.

I've owned both, and the hp series isn't euphonic enough for me.

Take my comments with a grain of salt, since i've heard neither. If i could find a really nice mint HP-2 (and had the money) i'd at least like to try it, but i have a feeling that my tastes (coming from HF1 and RS1) would prefer the sound of the PS1.

People should really be voting only if they've heard both, not what they've read or what they assume something will sound like.

I prefer the sound of the HP-1000 series, but the PS-1 is an excellent headphone as well. I just prefer the more balanced sound of the HP-2 (just that it's rolled off in both extremes). With the right amp it doesn't sound dry or dull.

I am not going to vote, because never heard of HP1/2/3 phones.

PS1 are mega ROCK phones, with totally different sound sig than GS1k or RS1 or any of Grado's that still in production. I found them a bit gray/cold coloured, which isn't floury but very steel with beautiful punch, which is very good for ROCK, IMO.
HP series seems to be very neutral, but that's only from what I have read up here.

I've heard both and prefer the PS-1's only because the HP-2's are so similar to the headphones that I already own.

I have the PS-1, HP-1, and HP-2 (upgraded from a HP-3 long time ago).

To me, I like the HP1000 better - they are more neutral, accurate, and when plugged in the right amp - let you listen more to the music as recorded, instead of as "tuned" by the headphone. The HP-1000 works extremely well with my Silver Edition Earmax, and the WA6 as well. More recently, I listened to them on my LISA XP w LLP and the sound is superb, and a great match for good classical pieces.

The PS-1 is silky smooth and bass heavy ( the JVC DX-1000 also have similar bass so the PS-1's bass is not that exclusive). It works better with my RPX-100. In my opinion it is a tad off-balance. The PS-1 is a great can for jazz, but not really for classics ?

PS-1 for its liquidly sound. SMOOOOOTHHHHHHH. (try the GCHA. WOWZER!)

HP-1000 for its neutrality. needs a good amp to drive it to its full potential.

I would certainly have bought the HP-1000.
But thats solely based on looks, since I have not heard any of them..

Why not buy both, and sell the one you like the least?

LOL

The HP's are more nuetral and the PS-1's are more colored... depends on what you like. I think the PS-1 is much more fun to listen to and as much as people talk about the bass I think the mid range is where the PS-1 really shines and IMO has no equal.
