So I'm listening to my SR60s, and after an hour or two my ears are in enormous pain. The headband is pushing the drivers too hard into my head and my pinnae are paying for it. Nevertheless, I stuck by my babies and kept on listening despite the pain. In a week or so, I find that the pain is gradually going away and I can listen for greater periods of time. My question is if this effect is intentional or just coincidence. Either my ears are getting stronger, however that happens, or the headband is purposely designed to be too small and to loosen up after several listening sessions to fit different head sizes. Does anyone have an answer to this riddle or maybe just a shared experience?

It will happen faster if you find a stack of books thats the same width as your head, and leave the grados on that all day. Since the headband is just really a strip of metal, the effect you are noticing is just the metal slowly changing its natural shape.

You can just bend the headband back so that the pads just rest lightly around your ears.

thats normal. Its the hazing John submits us all too. First 2-3 weeks are the worst.... Bruising, searing pain and soreness. The next 2-3 weeks are just as bad, but at least you are kind of used to it.

After that, your ear cartilage turns to mush and your ears become flat and you in fact are now one of the Borg

Seriously, you cannot complain about Grado's having too much pressure, because bending the headband open allows you to make them as soft as you want (hell the paperwork that comes with them explains this).

Yeah I dunno maybe Im weird but I would consider Grado's to be, dare I say it, the most comfortable headphones Ive had so far

. I say this because they are so light and rest so lightly on your head and around your ears. I have a problem with clamp and since they have none when the headband is bent back, I think they're super comfy.

I agree with you. Your SR225's are like heaven on my ears.
