I know this may sound crazy but I wanted to know if I should let the phones warm up to room temperature before using them. They will be coming UPS but its still cold in the back of those trucks

Any thoughts???
Or am I nuts???

I always used to put my CD3k in my microwave at 600w for about 1 minute. They really shined after that treatment. (one more reason to buy them people

GREAT TIMES !!!!!
LETS SEE, WOOD-- COLD THEN RAPIDLY HEATING UP, CRACKING CHECKING ECT...
ITS A REASONABLE QUESTION, BUT I GUESS NO ONE "KNOWS" ANYTHING BUT AUDIO HERE, SO FAR.....

It's a reasonable question and while slightly anal not excessive.

I would let them warm up slowly too.

I got an amp delivered yesterday and it was freezing cold out of the box. I took it out and let it sit for a while as I got ready to connect it.

Then I had to shower before listening to my PS-1's- see first sentence.

Plus the Grados have the plastic side peices which hold the rods for the ear peices.

Frigg'n things are expensive so a little care and concern isn't misplaced.

That IS valid question despite the answers here so far.

No, warming them wont be necessary. (unless its REALLY cold out there) Its not wise to turn delicate electrical components on after they have been in freezingly cold enviroment and has gathered moisture around them, cuz it MIGHT turn to water if turned on and device warms quickly. However, headphones are not that delicate (not stuff that would short circuit, not easily anyway). Amplifiers are different story.

A reasonable suggestion. I remember reading somewhere Larry's suggestion to let the headphones (Darth Beyers) warm up to room temperature before opening the box up when you initially receive them to prevent cracks in the wood.

At least in the violin world, moisture causes the wood 'panels' to come apart and dryness causes the wood to crack. I guess the same would apply to the wood on the GS-1000.

the wood should be fine as it is solid wood, not laminate. if you are really concerned let the whole box come up to room temp before opening as that leaves the phones in their own micro climate inside. opening the box exposes the change of humidity and temp quickly which is what causes damage(at least in the wood). i deal with art and antique furniture and this is common practise in the museum world, however as your phones have new wood i wouldnt be overly concerned. as far as the drivers and electronics i will leave that to the engineers out there.

Seriously. There's no need to crap on people when you're the one asking for help, and then answer your own question.

Thanks guys I knew some of you would agree it was a legit question.

As for the silly caps lock comments.

'CAPS HURT MY EYES"
thats classic

The "caps hurt my eyes" comment (actually from another thread where you capitalize half your posts) was an obvious figure of speech, basically meaning: typing in all caps is really moronic.

I think you might do well to go here and read the post about halfway down concerning caps lock.
