Grado e Series
Aug 2, 2014 at 2:43 PM Post #1,202 of 6,729
I am looking at getting the SR80i - now that they are discontinued and the price has dropped. Is there a way of finding out what drivers I'll be buying without opening them up? From the serial, perhaps? So that I can ask the seller to check? Having selectively read the thread i see some are disappointed with the e series. Does anyone have anything in particular to say/add to the SR80I vs the 'e' comparison? Apologies if already raised in the thread somewhere. Cheers.

I did not hear a substantial diff in the 80e vs. 80i. From iPod Classic 7G. Returned the e for refund. That said, the 80i is terrific for the money. Great value/performance. Suggest you listen for yourself with the remaining 80i still in stores.

Red drivers = e series.

Maestro, how many of the new Grado "e" series hp's have you been able to audition? From what I've read the most significant improvements have come with the lower end Grado offerings.

The difference isn't so great as the difference between 225i and e; mostly more bass that masks the treble.

One way to tell for sure is to buy one packed in a large "pizza box" instead of the new smaller box. Best luck!

The "e" drivers are red.  You can see them through the grill.  Don't be confused by a red wire.

I have a 60i with red drivers, which means that it is really an "e".

Only the 80e. Owned it for 3 wks. Then sold it on CAM. I dont doubt there are changes in e series, I just did not hear them in 80e.

Cheers,, bpcans

Correction: I did not hear changes in the 80e that I had. Not all 80e's are equal, apparently!

I took an offer of £69.17 at flubit. I've heard the sr60i which I thought sounded similar to SRH-840 which I loved so I should be happy.

That's a good deal. What are the retail prices in the UK for Grados? They're bad in the EU, I know. Here in Canada, a boxed 60i is retailing for $109CAD, about 59 GBP.

Thank's for posting those nice pics Jay.

Have you ever heard the, now vintage first gen GS1000, and if so how do they compare with the new ''e'' model, and, tell me, with 12 conductors isn't the cable a little stiff?
