Having owned the AKG K701, Beyerdynamic DT880, Sennheiser HD600...I appreciate more of a neutral, balanced presentation.

For those who are knowledgeable in the Grado / Alessandro Headphones, which model would produce a "neutral sound".

Thanks

Alessandro MS2i with flat pads .... or a woodied mid depth cup MS1. I had my MS1's modded by Head Coverage. I also have a special way I use the senn 19545 pads that makes the treble even smoother and less sibilant. If comfort is an issue the woodied MS1's are much lighter.

I've heard almost all of the actual Grado line-up and none of them is even close to being neutral. Joseph Grado HP1000 series, on the other hand, are as neutral as it gets for headphones. You have to be prepared to pay big money though, so you might want to consider other options.

neutral+grado=mutually exclusive....

This is not meant to be inflammatory, just telling it as i hear it....

When it comes to the Grado HP-1000, yeah you're wrong. It's considered by many to be one of the most neutral cans ever produced.

I will have a chance to listen to the hp1000s this weekend. I have never heard them personally however i heard they are neutral. Which is uncommon for grados.

Ive owned the MS1 and the SR225 and they were both bright. No where close to neutral.

I should have qualified that statement by saying that I've never personally heard them, however I see them labeled as such all the time.

The only Grado's I've owned were a pair of vintage RS-1's that I had for about seven years, until upgrading to the PS-1's a few months ago. At times I do regret parting ways with the RS-1, mainly due to sentimental attachment, however the PS-1's clearly improve on all levels for the types of music I listen to. As far as the value/performance ratio is concerned, I can't say that the PS-1's are worth four times as much as the RS-1's, however I could afford to do the upgrade at the time and the improvements are substantial enough for me to where I won't be selling them any time soon, if ever.

Now I'm looking forward to hearing the HP-1000's and GS-1000's. I'll be eager to read your impressions of the HP's after the meet this weekend. I wish I could have scheduled to attend but my work just wouldn't allow for it. Perhaps next year.

The reason I want a more neutral Alessandro / Grado Headphone is based on my previous ownership of Grado SR325's.

While I loved the details of the SR325's, the upper frequencies were just a little too much for my liking. Thus, I sold them.

I would like to move into another Grado (or Alessandro) Headphone, which exhibits the wonderful detail, just a little more "tamed" on the upper frequencies

Sounds like a 225, or any of the wooden grado's.

The iGrados have a top end that's a bit darker while still retaining good detail. They're portable...not sure if they're exactly what you're looking for, but they're definitely worth a look.
